What customers say
A tidy, adult-only touring spot behind a classic pub in a sleepy village. Spacious hardstanding pitches with grassy bits & picnic tables. Owners/staff get a thumbs-up, as does the grub at the Chequers Inn (book ahead!). Handy for the M1. Pub loos are clean & always open. No showers, but most reckon it's no biggie. Top for a stopover or short break.

Just a little piece of heaven!
Powered concrete and grass site
Liked This a fantastic site, with great pitches that are kept to the highest standard with your very own picnic bench and parasol. This is my 2nd stay and it wont be my last! Having 2 dogs there are many walks right from the front gate of the site, I walked for miles in open countryside.
The adjoining pub, The Chequers Inn, is welcoming especially with your four legged friends, treats are always available. The food is excellent and the range of beverages will suit all pallets.
The campsite plus the pub made a perfect stay for me and my 2 dogs.
I've been motorhoming for 2 years, this was my 1st site back in 2023 and it will take a lot to be beaten in my view.

Liked The site and the adjacent pub were clean and set in lovely surroundings. The site is dog friendly with plenty of footpaths and routes for walks around the village.
The pitch was level, spacious and had a bonus small picnic table. Electric hook up, waste and clean water nearby.
The pub catering was excellent (remember to order the day before). Plenty of ale choices too.

Liked Access is a short drive from the M1.
Very friendly and welcoming owners.
New clean site, well laid out flat pitch. Table and benches on each pitch with umbrella a nice touch. Toilets in pub available all night a short walk across the site.
Disliked Access to the chemical waste tank is up some steps. No handrail for older unsteady customers could be an issue.
Chem toilet washing using a hose which needs to be connected and switched on prior to carrying toilet tank to emptying area. Not aware food was not available every night, best to check before booking.

Will still be returning as it was a lovely.

Liked Lovely clean well maintained site. All plots are hard standing with a grass area with Picnic benches and parasols a lovely touch. Checkers pub on site was lovely dog friendly and a beer garden. Food good and reasonably priced. Lots of local footpaths leading from the village.
Disliked Very tight drive alongside the pub which had a line of cars parked on the road either side of it. Another gate half way up the drive which opened towards the inward traffic so a tight reverse to accommodate this . The caravan is then blocking the narrow road through the village.

Nice site with pub adjacent. Clean toilets available 24 hours.

Liked Clean and tidy pitches with individual drain for grey water. Each pitch has its own lawn with picnic bench.
Pub on site with real ales.
Disliked Toilet emptying into raised plastic container difficult. Rinsing with hose connected to same tap as drinking water tap requires planning as the tap is the length of the car park from the emptying point.
Main gate opens outwards so, if closed (outside pub opening times), it means sitting with rear end of caravan stuck out in roadway blocking traffic while opening.

Rude and Unreasonable Owner
Powered concrete and grass site
Liked Small, quiet campsite.
Disliked I appreciate this site is set up for dogs. However, the owners dog fowled on our pitch whilst we were having breakfast. My friend went to let him know, he came and without acknowledging me cleared up the mess. I mentioned that it wasn’t very pleasant and not really acceptable. He said ‘it’s only a dog’ and ‘the gate shouldn’t have been left open anyway’. I replied that neither of those issues were my concern, it was not pleasant to have his dog fowl our pitch. He then lost complete control and started shouting that it wasn’t acceptable that there were crumbs on the table or bottles on the floor and it wasn’t acceptable that we had removed the parasol from the picnic table (we hadn't). We were in shock at his attitude and my friend pointed out that there were other picnic tables without parasols and that sent him in a spiral which concluded by him saying that he was throwing us off the site. He subsequently returned our fee and told us to ‘jog on’. As he walked away, he mumbled something about ‘and go on your Palestine march’.
Fortunately, my friend has farmer friends in the area and we stayed on their land. I am a Relationship Therapist and my friend a Project Manager so, although he was aggressive and rude, we did find humour in the situation. Needless to say, however, I cannot recommend a site that treats its customers in such a way. I will say however I had a number of exchanges with the female owner and she was always professional.
