Camping L'Amfora

What sort of sunny hol might you fancy in Catalonia? One with a Costa Brava beach a few steps away? A huge waterpark and sunbathing area for when you can't be faffed even going that far? And a big, friendly and spotlessly clean site with activities galore for all the family – all are covered at the spectacular big site of Camping L'Amfora. There's direct access to a sandy Bay of Roses beach from the back of this huge park, part of the golden seven-kilometre stretch (the longest in the bay) edging the local town of Girona's Sant Pere Pescador. On site, there's loads to do for all tastes, including a massive waterpark, sporty options such as football, volleyball and basketball, and organised activities like water aerobics, zumba, yoga and dancing. The park has been designed with kids and families firmly in mind, so your small sorts can pick from craft, makeup, DIY sessions and more at the multilingual kids' club, splash around in the good-sized and safe paddling pool during a water games session, whirl around the swings and slides of the playground, or strut their stuff at an evening junior disco. And the grownups? Evenings sees entertainment galore for them too, ranging from disco to flamenco, acrobatics to karaoke, all in scenic settings by the pool. Everything winds down at midnight to give everyone on site the chance for some proper shut-eye, but fret not if you do want to party on, dude, as antics move to the beach after then. Among the many other facilities and amenities on site are a bar-restaurant serving Catalan specialities, a games room, an internet point and a supermarket; there's also an ATM, currency exchange and even – should you need it – a medical service.

The spectacular beach of Sant Pere Pescador, steps from the site, has seven kilometres of golden sand, two windsurfing areas and a windsurfing school. In town, take a free guided walking tour in summer, or wander the nearby countryside on the banks of the Fluvià river, among apple orchards and a nature trail. The birdwatching haven of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park is 10 minutes' drive to the north. Flocking around these wetlands are around 325 feathered species including spoonbills, cuckoos and nightingales; see what you can spy from one of the seven park hides or high up from the watchtower. All hides as well as the tower are connected by a track suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. For town and city sightseeing, the Greek and Roman excavations of Empùries are within 15 minutes' drive; Figueres is half an hour away and Besalú 45 minutes.
