Cosy up at Quinta Bliss in a comfy caravan set in private grounds on the outskirts of Porches, in Portugal’s ace Algarve… or spend as many hours as poss roving the region on your hol here – the site’s just over a five-minute drive from the seaside resort of Armação de Pêra, and within 15 minutes of the countless coves in this coastal area. Once you’ve had your fill of salty sea swims in front of the stunning sandstone cliffs of Nossa Senhora da Rocha beach (just over five minutes away by car), a pool’s available for fresher splashing on site (in the spring and summer months) or you might like to dry off with a wander around the park's mature three-acre garden. Complement your chillout session with a bevvy at the self-service bar – it looks out over the fishing lake for drinking in the splendid views as you sip on a cooling bottle of Portuguese beer. Alternatively, mosey on over to your caravan to flick through a magazine on the private terrace or head inside the unit to make use of the kitchen and lounge-diner area (it's got air conditioning so you can keep cool on sunnier days). A TV with English channels is on hand to help Brit guests keep up with fave programmes from home. There may, however, be little time for watching telly as there are tons of things to do in the area, from hurtling down the slides at the Zoomarine adventure park (20 minutes’ drive away) to appreciating the sand sculptures at SandCity FIESA (just over five minutes in the car).

It’s all about the beach days mixed in with times in tiny towns when on hols in the Algarve. Many of the region’s shorelines (think Barranco and Praia da Marinha, both within a 15-minute drive) are seriously scenic thanks to their orange cliffs and bright turquoise shores. Choose a section of the coast – perhaps the Carvoeiro boardwalk leading from the Nossa Senhora da Encarnação fort (20 minutes’ drive away) to the Algar Seco rock formation – for clifftop walks with views out over the water from way up high. To see the scenery from another perspective, get out onto the sea with a boat trip to the Benagil Caves (the tour departure spot is a 15-minute drive away) or rent a kayak from around the same area to explore hidden coves under your own steam. Local towns are also worth a morning or afternoon trip – head over to lovely Lagos, 40 minutes’ drive away, for a sweet old square, handsome 18th-century church and a castle with a baroque front.
