It's a particularly tiddler-pleasing destination, too, thanks to the fab kids' pool, spacious playground and high-season kids' club ents.
This neck of the woods is thickly forested with holm oaks and pines (so there's definitely scope for afternoon snoozes in the shade). These green and natural surrounds are a mere five-minute drive from La Palmyre town centre, where you can check out the funfair, hire a surf board or kayak or visit one of France's most popular zoos.
After all that action, you might want to head back to base, pull up a sun lounger and order a cheeky glass of vino at the bar (although those planning on taking on the gym or climbing wall might be better off with an energising smoothie instead).
No matter how many calories you burn when out and about around the park, you're at little risk of going hungry here – the on-site Atlantic Restaurant serves up generous portions of tasty French faves (a takeaway service is also available from the bar). Barbecue cook-outs are also allowed, so consider brushing up on your grill skills before heading here.

This site has direct access to coastal footpaths, so refreshing walks along the Atlantic are easy to sort. If you want to feel like you've reached the end of the world, make your way over to historic La Coubre lighthouse (30 minutes' walk) and soak up the endless ocean vistas… For a smart and sophisticated coastal resort, check out the covered market, cathedral and beaches at Royan (30 minutes' drive).
If you're tempted by the prospect of an offshore jaunt, head north towards the D26 road bridge and cross over to the gorgeous Île d'Oléron (30 minutes). This splendidly scenic isle has its own microclimate, making it popular with both people (who flock to its sandy beaches) and exotic plants (which thrive in the soil at La Boirie gardens).
This part of southern France is also a prime spot for inland explores: head to Saintes (45 minutes) for Roman and medieval architecture or to Cognac (an hour and 15 minutes) to visit the home of the brandy of the same name (check out Martell's distillery in the city centre for a chance to sample the wares).
