Old Barn Touring Park

Μου άρεσε: We had initially booked to have an electric camping pitch but with the horrific wet weather we upgraded to a camping pod. We were allowed to pitch our gazebo in between the two pods (2 adults and 2 children in one and 2 adults and 1 child in the other) so that we could have a communal space for meals, spending time together and when the children went to bed. The campsite was basic but very clean. I loved that, even though the toilet block was dated, there was showers with doors and a space to dress- NO SHOWER CURTAINS! Also, the sinks were cubbies with lockable doors for privacy. Usual price for the showers of 20p and ran long enough for a good few rinses of long hair and get scrubbed clean. The hairdryer actually did some drying too. Pods were spotless, kettle is always welcoming. Emma made it clear where the boggy areas were so that we didn’t get stuck in the cars and advised where we could park. The campsite was quiet and accessible and a great location.

Δεν μου άρεσε: I can see that the campsite owners are making improvements where they can from what must have been a very run down site. Areas could be tidied up such as the brook and maybe the stiffness of the taps but it is visible they have made changes and continue to do so.

Μου άρεσε: Customer service was the very best. I was warned about the soggy ground due to the appalling weather, told how best to park to enable towing off if necessary. 5 minutes into the visit, got bogged down and towed out as promised. I felt like an idiot, but the owner happily towed me out onto the roadway, with smiles and banter. The site was well laid out, and the facilities were clean and in good order. The 20p showers were just right, and long enough for me to shower and rinse and dry off before it stopped. The site was like just about every site in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, in that it was very wet, but the hosts could not be more welcoming and cheerful. Good value site and reasonably priced hookup, I can't wait to return when the weather improves.

Δεν μου άρεσε: We arrived at 5.30pm as stipulated when we booked, so we had to call a number. The gentleman that came to check us in welcomed us with the comment “another VW camper, exactly what I didn’t want to see” despite the fact we made the booking as such. As he continue to speak, it transpired it was due to the heavy rain and flooding, and previous customers ripping up his campground as it was so wet. We had tried to contact them earlier in the day by email and phone to check the latest situation. Had the rain been such a problem, perhaps they should have called their customers and cancelled their bookings rather than make us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Site is right on the road side, a lot of noise from traffic. There are 2 showers each, and they are 20p for roughly 4 mins. They are clean enough, but in need of a refurb. They had painted their tiles, and paint was flaking everywhere. We stayed two nights and by the second day only one of the four toilets had loo roll in the ladies.

If you had spoken to us while you were here we could have rectified the situation at the time. We hope this doesn't put you off visiting the Island again as it is truly a special place.

Μου άρεσε: In a good location, near to Shanklin and other attractions. Supermarkets were local too, which is a must for motorhoming!. Friendly and efficient service from the owners. A great discount on ferry tickets, too!

Μου άρεσε: Site was quiet and private just what we were looking for with our Dog who loved all the friends he made on the site! We would definitely return to the site as its position was perfect for local amenities and some lovely walks.
