Council-approved motorhome stopover in Hawick – the first in Scotland

Good news for motorhome owners travelling in the Scottish Borders – Hawick Council has now dedicated spaces in one of its car parks for campervans and motorhomes to park overnight. The scheme is on a two year trial and will be made a permanent fixture if successful. It operates from Easter until the end of September and is available for a stay of one night.
There are a couple of restrictions – overnight stays aren’t possible on Friday nights because of the Saturday market, and the first couple of weeks in June are also out because the site is used for a local fair. But apart from that, there are toilets, a fresh water tap and even volunteers on hand during the day to welcome visitors and give them information on the town.
The trial was instigated by the Hawick Welcome Initiative, a group of volunteers that ‘works to enhance the quality of the visitor experience in Hawick’. It’s likely to be a popular feature of tourism in the town – here’s hoping for a successful trial and more towns getting on board.
