Vanity Fair: Nearly a quarter of campers regret forgetting to bring a mirror away with them

We’re not a nation to neglect our appearance – even in when in the great outdoors. UK campers and caravanners have admitted in a recent poll by Pitchup.com that more than 20% of them forget to bring a mirror with them on their camping or caravanning break. With the ever increasing popularity of glamping, respondents have also rejected taking the traditional roll mat on their trip as nearly 60% of respondents now choose to bed down on an air or water bed instead and 15% have to have a pillow to hand.
However, despite wanting to look our very best after a peaceful night’s sleep on our airbeds, a traditional campfire breakfast remains a firm favourite amongst respondents. The traditional bacon sarnie reigns supreme as campers' and caravanners' food of choice, with more than 33% of the vote. Other haute-campfire-cuisine preferences included camembert baked over the embers, as well as the slightly more unusual 'beggs' – baked beans cooked into scrambled eggs.
So perhaps our food tastes are not to become as increasingly sophisticated as our sleeping arrangements. And there is always something to be said for a cosy, traditional campfire. Nearly 20% of survey respondents claim to be campfire master chefs, preferring to enjoy their food fireside rather than eat out.
