Em va agradar The view is amazing, but of excitement as the horses escaped so we had to do some horse wrangling to get them back in 😳😂 basic facilities but well worth the visit

Em va agradar Brilliant weekend at Chapmanswell Caravan Park! Thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. From the live music to the amenities, everything is well organised, clean and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Had a top night in The Anglers Rest - the country singer was spot on and really entertaining! We can’t wait to come back!
The only thing I can’t comment on is the WiFi - we didn’t use it so no idea how good it is.

Em va agradar Wonderful little site that we will definitely revisit. I’ll admit we were dubious when we first arrived as it’s a fairly small site but we actually had plenty of space and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were welcoming, friendly and more than happy to help with everything and anything. It’s a basic site with decent amenities which is all we tend to look for and that’s what it provided. Even got freshly laid eggs off the neighbours one morning! The on-site animals entertained the kids (and the adults!) and everyone camping was respectful and friendly. WiFi signal was good and consistent, not what we go away for but it’s a necessity these days. We’ll definitely be back!
No em va agradar Nothing it was perfect for us.

Em va agradar Facilities were clean, showers were hot. Pitches were a good size and well kept. Food van (Waves) was excellent and the owners of the van were very friendly.
No em va agradar Automated shotgun? Canon? Noise every 15 or so minutes from the neighbouring farm starting from 06:45am. I can only imagine it’s to scare birds/foxes as there’s a chicken farm right next to the campsite. Wish that had been included in the ‘things to know’ as that was incredibly irritating and woke us up every morning.
Website states check in from 09:30 so our party decided to arrive and pitch early so we didn’t have to waste most of the first day yet when we arrived just after 09:30 we were quite rudely told we were far too early and our pitch wasn’t ready yet. Had to wait over an hour for our pitch to be vacated. Check out is 11am so why not have the check in time a bit later to coincide with departure?
Kept being told to ‘keep it down’ at 21:30 despite the music literally being quiet enough to talk over at a normal level. Our kids were in bed as well so not like we were having a rave at midnight. Even more of joke to be told to ‘keep the noise down’ yet then one of the owners started emptying the bottle bin at 10pm which resonated across the entire campsite, alongside the stupid canon going off every few minutes.

Del gerent: Thank you for your taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you found the facilities clean, the showers hot and the pitches well kept and spacious. You are correct that when you booked back in January your check in time was 9.30am, but you have not mentioned that you turned up much earlier than that and used foul language in front of one of our staff to your partner because she had suggested that you came early. Unfortunately because you had asked for two pitches together, which we went to great lengths to accommodate, your pitches had not been vacated, as checkout is ideally between 10 and 11, but relies on campers packing away and being ready to leave during that hour and you had booked for the busiest weekend of the year. However we do understand that the 9.30 on pitch up needed adjustment and did this several weeks ago, but are going to make check in later again next year, which hopefully will prevent this from happening again. With regards to the bird scarer, we have no authority over the farmers in this area and as they have recently planted a crop and are within the law to have a bird scarer, unfortunately we have had to put up with it. We are also unable to dictate to our neighbour where he places his bird pens. With regards to noise after 9.30, we don’t think that is unreasonable and you were asked several times to turn your music down after complaints from other campers and you choose to turn it up the minute Mike walked away from you. Not sure who was using the bottle bins late at night, but it must have been earlier than you stated, as the bird scarer has to stop at sunset by law, but apologies if it was annoying for you. We completely understand that our site won’t be for everyone, but for the majority of people it is somewhere they keep coming back to and recommending us to their friends. We hope that you find a site that better suits your needs. Jayne and Mike

Em va agradar Roey’s retreat is a fairly new site having only been open for 12 weeks but you wouldn’t know that just by looking at it. The facilities are spotless, the pitches are well kept and the owners Karen and Neil are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I emailed Karen the day before our arrival and asked if there was a chance we could arrive earlier than stated on the booking form (12pm) as the forecast was incredibly hot and we didn’t fancy pitching up in the midday heat with kids and dogs in tow. Karen was more than accommodating and told us to arrive whenever we wanted as our pitch was already empty and prepared for our arrival.
There’s not a huge amount in the surrounding area in walking distance but they have set up a small shop on the campsite that have a selection of essentials.
A nice touch was the small park which the kids made use out of all weekend.
No em va agradar I rely heavily on reviews for campsites that we haven’t visited before and I always appreciate the totally transparent ones so it’s only right that I give the same: some of these negatives are not the fault of the owners so please bear that in mind but it’s good to have a broad view before booking (if only to come more prepared than we did!)
The site is located right next to a very busy road that sees tractors, combine harvesters, motorbikes, lorries etc travelling on it day and night. The noise wasn’t so bad that it interrupted the stay and it was fairly easy to tune out however we were pitched the far side of the site, I imagine anyone pitched on the side closest to the road will find this a problem.
The place is swarming with horseflies. Again, nothing that the owners can do but I hadn’t read anything previously about horseflies so unfortunately didn’t pack any repellent. Thankfully I’ve always got bite and sting cream in our first aid kit as we’ve come home absolutely pickled in bites.
The shower only has one temperature - don’t get me wrong it’s lovely and hot but the kids found it too hot and it was a shame we couldn’t adjust. Not sure if there is a plan to change this in future but a few campers also said it was too hot for their kids so were resorting to strip washing. Now don’t get me wrong I’m the first one to shout “you’re camping! You’re not supposed to be clean!” But in the sticky heat, mixed with the fly bites we really did appreciate a rinse off at the end of the day.
The last thing to note was as we were packing down Karen approached and stated she would need the pitch in half an hour due to promising someone else early check in. This was added pressure we could’ve done without, especially as it was already incredibly hot, we were going as fast as we possibly could (we had just dropped the tent at that point) and we all felt this was information that could’ve been passed when she had been chatting to us for a fair while hours before. Now I know we were able to arrive early however, I was lead to believe that was because our pitch was already available. The booking site states check in is at 12pm and I think if someone is still packing down at 10:30am and doesn’t look to be finished then you should at least give them until 11:30am to vacate. I could understand the added pressure if we were still sat around at 10:30 and didn’t appear to be moving but as I said, we were already rushing because the kids/dogs were exposed to the heat which we were very aware of and all we had to do was stuff the tent in it’s bag and load the trailer so I didn’t appreciate the added pressure to be honest. As welcoming as we felt when we arrived, we felt like they couldn’t get us out quick enough when we left which was a real shame and left us all with a bad taste.

Del gerent: Hi Sam thanks for your review. Pleased you enjoyed the majority of your stay. In the discription it does mention we are next to a road and being in the country side we can't control the insects. If you had mentioned this we would have given you insect spray but you didn't. As with the checking out, the policy does state you need to vacate by 10am so we can cut grass and tidy up all rubbish for the next lot of campers. You also didn't mention the showers were too hot again if you had we could have adjusted the temperature for you, you are the first to mention this. Lovely to have met you all and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Em va agradar We stayed in the electric grass pitch field. The layout was great meaning all the caravans/vans etc were pitched along the edge so the kids had plenty of space to run about. Lovely and quiet too. Didn’t meet the owners but some of our party requested to be pitched closer to us on arrival and they were accommodated. Facilities were lovely and clean and the showers were top notch. Loved that the hook up and water is so close to the pitches - usually there’s a trek to collect water but not here. Great dog walking fields on site. Very good price for what you get. Unsure if the site offers WiFi hence the one star but only because we didn’t need it so unable to review.
No em va agradar The road into the site is the biggest let down for us. Unfortunately the speed humps and the parts of the road that were unfinished took their toll on the caravan and we suffered a pretty severe puncture as we left the campsite at the end of our stay. It’s always stressful having to change a tyre on the side of the road but that is surely increased when trying to change a caravan tyre on a busy road with no lay-by. We managed fine and got back on the road but the punctured tyre had to be scrapped as it was irreparable unfortunately. It didn’t spoil the weekend but it was an unfortunate end to what was a wonderful stay. I have to ask if it’s really necessary for all of the speed humps for a caravan site? One or two perhaps but there are several fairly close together. The cause of the puncture was the road at the entrance which is full of loose gravel, pot holes and general uneven terrain. Not ideal when towing. It’s a shame because the site itself is fabulous and if it wasn’t for the road and fear of another costly repair we would visit again.
The site also advertised cream teas and a burger van however none of this was open due to the owners/staff enjoying the Cornwall show. Not that I begrudge anyone the first Cornwall Show in 2 years but the closure wasn’t highlighted at time of booking. This didn’t really impact our stay at all but unable to impart an opinion since it wasn’t open.
Wouldn’t recommend to anyone with a caravan or motor home purely because of the road.

Del gerent: Hi, thanks for review. Unfortunately as this is a single track road to site we have to have speed bumps due to excessive speed some of our visitors choose to do. Only last year a small child was killed on another site in Cornwall due to speed of driving, we do not want to be in that position here, I am sure you would agree with that. (we are looking at reducing number of bumps mind). The start of the drive is being tarmacked in off season, as a working farm we have heavy tractors and machinery using this entrance which do chew it up, sorry about that. Cannot comment on flat apart from nobody else has ever had one. Owners weren't at Cornwall show the were at the jubilee festival in Wadebridge. Any of the shops could have been opened with a quick call to the phone numbers left on house door. Please pop back next year and see the improvements even if just for day, we will make sure cream teas are open as they are very good.

Em va agradar Before our arrival I called Colin to request our group was pitched together and there were a lot of us due to arrive. Colin was nothing but accommodating and that continued throughout our stay. We were all blown away with his kindness and welcoming attitude - something not to be taken forgranted! The site itself is exactly what you expect it to be: no bells and whistles attached, you make your own fun! The toilet/shower block was cleaned throughly everyday and there is easy access for waste disposal. We loved our stay at Lower Pennycrocker and will definitely book again.
