Sometimes simple is best – and that’s certainly the case at Simple Story, a small and friendly touring site with electric hook-ups on the outskirts of Elche and five minutes’ drive from busy Alicante Airport on the Costa Blanca. However simple the pitches may be, there are loads of compensations in the shape of many handy facilities. The site’s hub is a Spanish-style house with a comfortable interior where you can relax, watch a sports match in the TV room or catch up on your remote working. All your cooking needs are taken care of too, thanks to the communal barbecue and well-equipped kitchen – and if you’re not feeling the self-catering vibe, there are plenty of tapas bars and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive. In need of more stuff to keep you busy? There’s a swimming pool complete with Balinese-stye cabanas, sun loungers and a Jacuzzi, plus a tennis court to keep sporty types on their toes. The site owners can also organise musical evenings or painting lessons for guests – and incidentally they are also happy to run you to and from the airport at no extra charge.

Holidaying with the family? Make straight for Río Safari Elche (five minutes’ drive), where the kids can see big cats in spacious enclosures and whizz down waterslides to cool off afterwards. Other child-friendly options include the rollercoasters and carousels at Pola Park, and a dip in the Med off the long sweep of sand at Playa Lisa (both 10 minutes). Come to the Costa Blanca to hone your golf handicap? There are several courses within 20 minutes. Otherwise you can keep fit on the Norte del Cid via ferrata climbing course (40 minutes), or hike up to spectacular Elche Dam (20 minutes) for a picnic while soaking up the reservoir views. After a big night on the tiles? Alicante (20 minutes) is a good bet with its gorgeous bar-lined seafront promenade and an almost legendary late-night scene in the pretty, cobbled Old Town. For more sedate nights out, book tickets to see a play at the Teatre Principal d’Alacant or classical concerts at the Auditori de la Diputació d’Alacant.

Em va agradar: This site is no longer taking camping of any kind! Spoke to owner directly and we were lucky he let us in as we travelled far we had booked with Pitch up Swimming pool and outdoor shower good

No em va agradar: Not set up for camping or motorhomes Owner will be offering hotel only services Spa/jacuzzi was empty/out of use Location map co ordinates sent was incorrect on pitch up

Em va agradar: Un sitio muy tranquilo el personal muy amable, pero como área de autocaravanas tienen algunas deficiencias. Vaciado de aguas grises y negras. El agua y la luz de una cocina exterior pero muy lejos de las parcelas. La ubicación que viene en la aplicación incorrecta. Pero todo es mejorable y les deseo suerte. Deben corregir las deficiencias.
