Fancy a fresh-air break in north Holland but travelling sans relevant camping kit? Bag one of Vodatent at Chaletpark Holiday’s safari tents, in the village of Hensbroek, and you’ll glide in to find everything set up and waiting for you.
Pleasingly spacious and well-furnished tents are kitted out with electrical supplies, lighting and a nifty kitchen unit on wheels, meaning you can select its indoor/outdoor position on a daily basis once you’ve assessed the weather. There’s space for alfresco eats out on the wooden deck, or you can batten down the tent’s front panel for cosy evenings in.
And hurrah for all that, because this handy set-up means more time to spend on the site’s fun things: perhaps trotting over to the lake for a paddle, a swim or some fishing, clambering around at the playground or knocking a few balls about at the tennis court. In summer the tiddlers may well also want to peruse the options on the activities menu.
Fun things are all around, too – you may like to hire bikes on site for local pottering, or venture a bit further for beach days or city ramblings in Haarlem or Amsterdam.

This is a tiptop spot for those who’d like to tick off all the classic Dutch sights: hire bikes on site for easy rides along the local cycle paths to take in traditional villages and wend your way past windmills. Alkmaar’s famed cheese market and cheese museum are about 20 minutes away by bike; while you’re here you may also like to drop in on the beer museum.
Venturing a little further, you can reach the colourful fishing village of Volendam with a drive of half an hour or so, or get to Haarlem or Amsterdam in about 45 minutes. Sand and sea air are about a half-hour drive away too; try Bergen aan Zee for a cracking stretch of beach.
There’s plenty of choice for those with tiddlers in tow too: Speelpark de Swaan amusement park, Vlindorado butterfly and bird garden and watersports at Skeef are all within a 20-minute drive.
