Safari tents in Drenthe – with Shetland ponies included – are just a couple of options on offer at Vodatent at Minicamping Hendriks Wijkje five minutes' drive from Elim. This is a family-friendly site, with play kit including a sandpit, swings, slides and a trampoline; there are Shetland ponies and horses to pet and ride, and guests of all sizes also have free access to the Dolphin centre in Hoogeveen within 15 minutes' drive, where a competition pool, two toddler pools, a leisure pool with diving board and hot tub, and an outdoor sunbathing area and terrace all await. All safari tents have views of the sandpit and playground. Guests can buy fresh bread every morning and eggs from the site's chickens, and non-perishable groceries, regional produce and ice cream at reception. The site is in the south west of the Drenthe province near the villages Elim and Hollandscheveld in the municipality of Hoogeveen. It's in a woodland setting popular for walking and cycling; the '10 villages' route run past the site and many scenic walking paths are among the trees. Excellent options for family days out are within 10 minutes' drive: the lake, fishing pond and play equipment of the Schoonhoven recreational area, and the rides, themed areas and Aqua Mexicana waterpark of the Slagharen amusement park. Just under half an hour to the north, days' worth of hiking, cycling and mountain biking adventures are at Dwingelderveld National Park, the biggest wetland heathland in western Europe. The famed Wildlands adventure zoo at Emmen is half an hour away.
