Searching for somewhere in the Northeastern Netherlands where you can wake up to views over the River Vecht and go fishing or canoeing straight from your bed? The peaceful site at Buitenplaats de Luwte – 10 minutes’ drive from historic Zwolle – should hit the spot very nicely. Everything here is family-friendly too, with swings in the orchard and a trampoline for the kids, as well as ping-pong tables, a pétanque court (bring your own equipment) and a thatched hang-out zone with cosy sofas plus books and games to keep little minds occupied. There are rowing boats and canoes to hire on the river, and you can take refreshing dips from the small sandy beach. Dogs are welcome on site so they can join you on long waterside rambles – and if you’re exploring the region by electric bike, there are charging points by reception. As far as food is concerned, go down the self-catering route and rustle up a barbecue, or divert to the pavilion restaurant, which has a sun-trap terrace overlooking the river and a menu of family staples like burgers and fries. You can also dodge any early-morning cooking by ordering the breakfast service from reception.

Llocs d'interès

It’s a doddle to keep kids amused around Buitenplaats de Luwte. Hotfoot it to Koe Safari Erve Vechtdal (20 minutes’ drive) and trundle past rare-breed Brandrode Vechtdal cattle aboard a vintage tractor or sail a wooden boat down the River Vecht. There are Gold Rush-themed coasters and Ferris wheels at Attractiepark Slagharen (half an hour), as well as carousels for younger kids. All ages will adore the madcap sculptures of giants and elephants set in landscaped grounds at Landgoed Anningahof (10 minutes’ walk), and families can work together at solving the puzzles at Swolland escape room (five minutes). The Hanseatic city of Zwolle (10 minutes’ drive) will also keep most kids cheerful with boat cruises along the canal and wacky art installations in De Fundatie Museum. Have a stroll around the thatched houses in gorgeous Giethoorn (half an hour, or potter along its many waterways by boat. When more demanding exercise is called for, go cycling along the banks of the Vecht or take a guided bike tour of the manmade IJsseldelta (half an hour).

Em va agradar The site was very peaceful and the pitch was of a good size with the electricity nearby.

There was no motorhome service point though.

The facilities were ok, not as modern as some but were always clean.

No em va agradar The only downside was that the bar/restaurant closed at 6pm on the Saturday and wasn't open until 11am on the Sunday by which time we'd left. It would have been nice to have sat outside and had a drink or food there

Em va agradar This campsite was clean, calm and just beautiful. The cafe/restaurant has beautiful views and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Em va agradar de locatie vlak bij de Vecht.

No em va agradar de smalle strook waar wij stonden, vrij dicht tegenover anderen. En onze buren waren tot middernacht hard aan het praten met hun bezoek.
