Tendi at Glamping Resort Orlando in Chianti is a quietly located campsite in Monti del Chianti between the villages of Cavriglia and Greve in Chianti – bang in the middle of the Chianti wine region and roughly an hour’s drive from Florence, Siena and Arezzo.
Spacious accommodation is in safari tents set among oak trees to keep everything shaded and cool in summer. With views over forested valleys from a covered decking, each tent has its own ensuite shower room, electricity and exclusive-use barbecues.
Life on site revolves around the pool complex, comprising a heated swimming pool, paddling pool, whirlpool and splash park for the kids. Here you can while away the day doing laps, catching some rays on the sun deck or enjoying a crafty drink at the bar – and you can keep an eye on your offspring from the terrace overlooking the pool.
There are also a couple of play areas for the site’s younger clientele, and you can keep the whole family occupied on the boules court, playing ping pong, hiking the surrounding hills or renting bikes to venture out into the Tuscan countryside.
In the mini market, order fresh bread for the following morning, and stock up on basic groceries and regional specialities. Come the evening, choose between a menu of Tuscan dishes or classic pizzas in the restaurant.

The Chianti region is known across the world for its wines; to sample some of its produce, visit the Castello di Albola wine estate (five minutes’ drive) for a tour and tastings, before heading to Radda in Chianti (20 minutes) to walk the medieval defence walls for views over surrounding vineyards.
Piazza Matteotti in Greve in Chianti (25 minutes) is the place to pick up Chianti Classico wines as souvenirs, as well as other local specialities including extra virgin olive oil, Finocchiona cured meats and Marzolino sheep’s cheese.
To see some of the greatest art in the world, head to the galleries and museums of Florence (an hour). For Tuscan architecture at its most flamboyant, marvel at the ornate striped facade of the Duomo in Siena (55 minutes), or tramp up the landmark Torre Grossa in San Gimignano (an hour and five minutes), built in 1310 by a powerful local family. Arezzo (55 minutes) is rich in spectacular Romanesque and Gothic churches, and hosts an excellent antiques market on the first Sunday of every month.
