Reckon you can’t afford a beach hol to the Maldives? Think again… well, almost. The sands are pretty dreamy at Le Maldive del Salento (15 minutes’ drive) – take a paddle here, stretch out on the sand and you’ll barely notice you’re not staying in those far-flung tropical islands. And you’ll not want to stop there with the beach times, for there’s more not far away – try out the sands of Lido Marini (10 minutes), Torre Vado (20 minutes) and local fave Torre Mozza (five minutes), which is also a good place to have a crack at kitesurfing. For a bit more activity, take a walk along the trails that wander through the wetlands, woods and rocks of the Litorale di Ugento regional park (15 minutes) or head out to potter around little local villages such as Presicce and Ugento (both 15 minutes away).
