Afegiu les dades de la vostra empresaAnd now for something completely different. It’s not quite a boat, but it certainly floats. Botel Diffuso dei Laghi is a boxy-styled wooden cabin anchored to the shoreline of Lake Lugano, around five minutes’ drive from the border with Switzerland.
Surrounded by greenery and framed by the Italian Alps, your floating home is backed by the pretty, hillside village of Porto Ceresio and its lakeside promenade.
With accommodation covering one double bedroom, masses of storage, a shower room, comfy living space and private decking overlooking the lake, the Botel is a self-contained, off-grid unit for a romantic lakeside escape.
Please note that all the energy and resources available are powered by solar panels, and there is no kitchen or provision for cooking. However, it’s an easy stroll of 10 minutes into Porto Ceresio, where you’ll find pretty much everything you need: a bakery, ice-cream shop and newsagent, as well as alfresco bars, pizzerias and waterfront restaurants.
Parking is not available at the Botel, but five minutes’ walk takes you to secure paid parking, where you can leave your car safely. Not driving? Arrive on the ferry that traverses the lake, or take the train from Milan or Varese.

If you’re heading to Switzerland for a day of exploring, have a walk around pastel-coloured Brusino Arsizio village (five minutes’ drive) and then take the funicular up to Serpiano for views over the snow-capped Alps.
Sitting at the head of the lake, lovely Lugano (40 minutes) may well be your next stop. It’s the big-hitter over on the Swiss side of the border, with art galleries and museums galore as well as high-end shopping. Take a boat cruise around the lake from its ferry port, or settle in a waterside restaurant to get down to some serious people-watching.
Back in Italy, loved-up couples can lunch in romantic, seafront Brusimpiano (10 minutes) restaurants, take a dip in the pool at the lido and laze in the sun on the promenade. Lavena Ponte Tresa (15 minutes) is a bustle of shops and markets, as well as a peaceful lakeside boardwalk and a yacht marina to stroll. Heading inland, drive up to Ca’ del Monte (10 minutes) to explore the peaceful mountain village and admire mountain-ringed Lake Lugano spread out below.
