Amici in Fattoria

If the kids are with you, it’ll be nigh-on impossible to drag them away from the adorable donkeys, but there is much to see and do around Amici in Fattoria. The alpacas and raptor flying displays at Parco Natura VoloAlto (25 minutes’ drive) might just do the trick, or you can entice them away to the rollercoasters and carousels at Luneur Park (45 minutes). With all the impressive sights of central Rome about an hour’s drive away, you may like to do a whirlwind tour of the Colosseum, Forum and Pantheon, all within walking distance of each other. Alternatively, you can explore the ancient Roman harbour at Fiumicino (45 minutes), stopping off for refuelling at a seafood restaurant overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Closer to home base are the Etruscan remains around UNESCO-listed Cerveteri (25 minutes); chief among these are the frescoed subterranean tombs at the Necropoli della Banditaccia (half an hour). Also nearby is the mighty 15th-century Castello Orsini-Odescalchi (20 minutes), open for self-guided tours of its richly ornamented rooms and courtyards.
