A dreamy North Sea island location, five minutes’ drive to the beach and plenty to keep the whole family entertained… that’s what’s on offer at Domo Camp. Set on Sylt, a peaceful Frisian island lapped by the sea, the glampsite is set up with luxuriously kitted-out tents that promise a decent night’s kip in proper beds. Each unit has beanbag seating to loll around in, plus a camping kitchen equipped with essentials for cooking up an alfresco feast to serve up on your private decking. Keeping everybody fed and watered is made easy too, with a bread delivery service and shopping options in Morsum (five minutes’ drive). And if you don’t fancy cooking, that’s no problem either, as there are burger bars and restaurants in the village as well as at Keitum (10 minutes). Back to the site though – handy family-friendly facilities include top-notch bathrooms with hot showers, a baby washroom and a launderette to keep on top of the clothes washing. There’s also a small play area for youngsters right next to the glamping tents, while older kids will no doubt lap up the wifi (and power is available to keep their devices charged up).

With 100 kilometres of coastline, the island of Sylt is one of the kitesurfing hotspots of northern Europe. No matter whether you’re a complete beginner or championship level, you can soon get out on the water at Kite School Pro Sylt (five minutes drive), where there is gear hire and tuition for every ability. If you’d rather stick to gentler pastimes, there are myriad walks around the island; head for Morsum Cliffs (45 minutes’ walk) for North Sea views, or stroll to the prehistoric standing stones at Harhoog (55 minutes). Rantum Basin nature reserve (15 minutes’ drive) is the place to spot thousands of seabirds on the coastal mudflats. There’s more wildlife to be viewed at Sylt Aquarium (15 minutes), where the kids can watch rays being fed or spot sharks from the walkthrough underwater tunnel. For something family-orientated to do on a rainy day, look no further than Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt (half an hour), with interactive exhibits about the island – and if the weather clears up, you can have a go on the Ferris wheel for views over the beach and sea.
