Rosières (20 minutes' walk or a five-minute drive) is a fine place to start, especially if you're here at the same time as its biweekly July and August market. There's also a community-run cinema here in case you fancy dinner and a show. On the other side of the river Baume, Joyeuse (five minutes) has more pretty streets to saunter around, plus a couple of adventurous activity outfits that can take you out kayaking, canyoning or trekking with the pros. A little further afield, Vallon-Pont-d'Arc (30 minutes) has a smashing natural stone archway and some very visit-worthy caves. Aubenas (25 minutes) could also prove fertile ground for chilled jaunts: its handsome château and renaissance buildings are definitely stand-out sights (and this scenic part of France sets the bar pretty high in that department…). Need to keep the small sorts happy? In no particular order, there's the Château des Roure (40 minutes), Le village de Gopher adventure park (30 minutes), Vogüé's miniature golf course (25 minutes) and Moby Parc theme park (an hour and 15 minutes) to tide you over.
