Heading to the Pays de Fayence for rock climbing and hiking? Perhaps whitewater rafting or kayaking down gorges? Lou Cantaire may make a good base in the southeast of the province – and it's also 50 minutes’ drive from Cannes (and of course, dips in the Mediterranean). This site has plenty of shade from pine trees, along with peaceful terraces where you should find it easy to unwind. However, the centre of the action is at the site’s swimming pool and waterpark, which is geared up for guests of all ages. While little ones may want to splash about at the paddling pool, waterfall or crocodile and baby slides and teens tumble down the three waterslides, adults can soothe any sore limbs a little in the hot tubs. Once you’ve towelled down in the amenities block, there’s entertainment on site too – just check out the programmes in reception for the schedule. Alternatively, you may want to burn off some more energy in the site’s gym, tennis courts, bowling green or playground – all are free to use. When you’re ready to refuel, there are several food shops within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. Restaurants, cafés and bars are around here too, so you can get a fulfilling meal in before moving onto the next activity.

Those of you with adventurous blood running through your veins may be in store for a good time here. With the skydiving centre at Air Play Parachutisme VAR Fayence (10 minutes’ drive) and rock climbing at the scenic Gorges du Blavet (25 minutes) within driving distance, you might just set your sights on new heights, no matter whether you’re a beginner or a more advanced adrenaline junkie. Watersports also have a strong stance in this area. La Base des Arcs (35 minutes) is a proper spot for whitewater rafting, kayaking or mountain biking, while Lac de Saint-Cassien has a reel of ways to get wet, including boating, fishing, swimming and watersports. Siagne (25 minutes) has kayaking too, and its hiking routes offer up activity onshore. Once you’ve had your run of the watersports hotspots, it may be that you’d like to pay a visit to the zoo at Parc Zoologique de Fréjus (35 minutes) or perhaps go for a different type of dive – into the arts scene in Cannes (50 minutes). Of course, that’s if the beaches there haven't already lured you in…

Em va agradar: Pool

No em va agradar: Very dry and dusty ground. Someone already in our allocated pitch. We booked three nights and left after one. Cockroach in sink. Most toilets were out of order. Pool very crowded. No soap or sinks in toilets. Wifi free for ten mins!
