Seeking a budget-friendly break in Vienne? Sashay along to Sanxay and Camping du Pont des Bergers. On the banks of the Vonne river and a few minutes’ stroll from the village centre (for handy access to a convenience store, a bar and the all-important bakery), this is a fab location for all sorts of days out, including château visits, walks in the Marais Poitevin and trips to the excellent Futuroscope theme park, a 40-minute drive away.
This is a budget site, but that doesn’t necessarily mean basic... as ably demonstrated by the ample list of facilities provided here. As well as being well equipped with essentials (wifi, launderette and shower block among them), there’s also plenty here to keep all members of the family suitably amused: a playground, pétanque court and a sizeable outdoor pool with a paddling pool and waterslide.
For more watery antics, stroll just outside the site to the Vonne river to fish or paddle about in canoes, kayaks or pedalos, all of which are available to hire.

Llocs d'interès
The big draw around these parts is the huge Futuroscope: France’s second largest theme park has heaps of rides, shows and attractions for all ages, and is about 40 minutes’ drive from Sanxay.
If you like your days out with more of a green tinge, head in the opposite direction for 45 minutes or so to the Marais Poitevin, France’s second largest wetland area. There are lots of marked level trails to explore by bike (which you can hire when you arrive) or on foot; alternatively you could paddle a canoe along the canals or glide along on a traditional flat-bottomed boat tour.
A little closer to home (within a 10-minute drive) are the colourful stained glass museum in Curzay-sur-Vonne, the ancient Château de Marconnay and the Romanesque church at Jazeneuil. Cultured types may also like to try to schedule their visit to be here during Sanxay’s summer music festival, which stages grand open-air opera shows just a few minutes from the site.
