Afegiu les dades de la vostra empresaWhisking the family away to Oléron Island? The final piece in your puzzle may very well be Camping Barataud. This quiet family-friendly site is just 150 metres from Plage des Huttes, a sandy beach that's supervised in July and August.
With two bike rental services on site, you could equip each family member with a pair of wheels and go gallivanting around the island’s safe cycle trails. The site is only three kilometres from the shops in the centre of Saint-Denis-d'Oléron and a 15-minute cycle (or a 10-minute drive) from its marina, which is lined with beach bars, cafés and restaurants.
One of the island’s most iconic destinations is Phare de Chassiron, a lighthouse built in 1836, only a 15-minute cycle away from the site. There are forest hikes and fishing (on land or at sea) to try around the island, as well as restaurants a short drive away serving the likes of oysters and Pineau.
Before you start thinking too much about all the walking, kite-flying, horse-riding and cycling you have ahead of you, it’s worth noting that Camping Barataud also has a handy set of facilities. There are indoor and outdoor pools (both open during high season only), as well as a play area and a miniature golf course.

If your Oléron Island itinerary isn’t already close to bursting point, go on and pick out a few more splendid family activities to add to the end of a morning or afternoon.
The little train of Saint Trojan (40 minutes’ drive) will take you on a 12-kilometre trip around the island’s forests and beaches. Otherwise, explore off your own back by driving or cycling to villages with typical island architecture and views – like La Brée-les-Bains (10 minutes), Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron (15 minutes), Le Château-d'Oléron (35 minutes) and Saint-Trojan-les-Bains (35 minutes).
Want a few clues to the island’s history and traditions first? Pay a visit to Museum Island of Oleron (15 minutes) or La Maison éco-paysanne (35 minutes). The latter is a museum with traditional architecture and a typical island farm with a house, barns and cellars that would have been used by locals until the 19th century.
Get your wildlife-watching fix at the Natural Reserve Moëze-Oléron (35 minutes) or scout out more sandy beaches in Boyardville (20 minutes) and Chaucre (five minutes).
