Set in a pine forest just 700 metres from a golden sandy beach, Camping L'Abri des Pins is just the spot for nature spotting and laidback beach days. It's so peaceful here you'd hardly believe you're just a five-minute drive from the centre of the seaside resort town Saint-Jean-de-Monts.
Get a dose of sea air with watersports on the beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Monts, drive 10 minutes to the national forest, Pey of Blet, to spend an afternoon on the cycle paths or try out tree climbing, golf and thalassotherapy within five minutes' drive of the site. Local markets and excursions to the islands of Yeu or Noirmoutier might also catch your eye, unless you're already preoccupied with the lashings of leisure facilities for all ages on site…
Among those facilities are a stunning heated outdoor pool area with slides, a gym and several excellent walking and cycling paths around the grounds. Rather sensibly for a place that has a hammam and massage water jets in its swish indoor pool complex, a babysitting service is at Camping L'Abri des Pins. Try to avoid overly gleeful cackles as you hand your kids over to the expert babysitters or kids' club.
Once the kids are released back to you, family-friendly activities ranging from sports tournaments to magic shows to karaoke and music evenings are on hand during summer afternoons and evenings. You could also challenge offspring to pétanque or table tennis, or cast an indulgent eye on them while they bound around the play area, bouncy castle or games room.
Camping L'Abri des Pins also has a bar-restaurant (open during high season only) and communal barbecues.

Llocs d'interès
L'Abri des Pins is not too far from the Pey of Blet cycle paths, and handily, bikes can be hired directly from the site if you don't want to strap your own set to your car. Biker types could also cycle to the village of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (20 kilometres along a flat route) or take their wheels to one of the nearby islands: Noirmoutier (half an hour's drive) and Île d'Yeu (a 15-minute drive and an hour and 20 minutes by ferry).
Less strenuously for your cycling legs, you can get to Saint-Jean-De-Monts town centre in five minutes, saving plenty of energy for arranging sessions or instruction in watersports such as sailing, kitesurfing and kayaking. Or head along to the local adventure and animal parks, including Explora Parc (five minutes), Atlantic Toboggan (15 minutes) and Youpla Land (14 kilometres).
Take kids and animal fans to the nature parks and gardens around the area: try Biotopia (five minutes) or Jardin du Vent (five minutes); L'île aux Papillons (25 minutes) on Noirmoutier and the salt marshes immediately around the site. Planète Sauvage is around 50 minutes' drive away.
