A laidback and verdant Nord-Pas-de-Calais site, family-friendly Gitavesnois stretches over three and a half acres of secluded woodland in the lush Avesnois Regional Natural Park. It’s five minutes’ drive from the rural village of Willies, and when you book a stay there, you can look forward to spectacular sunsets on clear evenings, wildflowers growing all around the pitches and a very warm welcome from the site owners.  Facilities tucked under the trees include a communal summer kitchen where you can cook and eat alfresco meals surrounded by greenery and peace. If you’d prefer someone else to do the catering for you (you’re on holiday, remember), a continental breakfast service, picnic lunches and an evening meal of seasonal local produce are all available for a charge and by prior booking. This leafy site is also very bike friendly, being 10 minutes’ cycle ride from the Scandibérique, the French section of the EuroVélo 3 pilgrimage route linking Trondheim in Norway to Santiago de Compostela on the west coast of Spain.

Em va agradar This is an exceptionally well run site, in a beautiful and peaceful setting, with Sylvie and Fabrice doing everything possible to anticipate the needs of guests. We camped, and enjoyed the feel of wild camping (pitching amongst trees in complete privacy) with the comfort of a small spotless shower block, plentiful hot water for washing up, and a shared kitchen equipped with a gas double burner, electric kettle, coffee maker, pans, utensils and crockery. There are tables and chairs available just outside the kitchen for guests to use.

Fabrice came to greet us within moments of phoning him on arrival (no hunting round the site trying to find someone), and Sylvie came to check that everything was fine shortly afterwards. We’ve been camping for years, and this is one of the best sites - if not the very best - we’ve stayed on. Thank you, Sylvie and Fabrice!

Em va agradar Wonderful campsite. Sylvie and fabrice were supportive and kind. The showers are hot and don't turn on and off. Sylvie lent me an adapter for charging my phone as I had the incorrect one and even made coffee in the morning. Its quiet and dark at night and feels wild but accessible. The facilities are close to where you pitch and they even let me.park my car aka microcamper where the tents are pitched. I felt safe and looked after, which as a solo female traveller, is a big deal. I would 100% recommend. Thanks for making me feel welcome guys.

No em va agradar I drove the wrong way into the campsite and my car got stuck but we got it out. Really nothing at all to dislike at all though, I loved it, I would.defo.come back. Thanks guys. 😊

Em va agradar The space looked absolutely magical, with trees surrounding every camping space and cabin. The facilities were perfect, really, toilet, shower, kitchen, well stocked, with hot water and easy to access.

Em va agradar I loved staying at gitevanois. It has everything a person could ask for. There is enough space to feel like you are alone in the woods, and at the same time very secure and save.
The host Sylvie is very welcoming, excellent breakfast. I will definitely be back.

Em va agradar Fabulous site located in the woods. Great showers and indoor cook house. All very clean. Sylvie was amazing. We had a nervous dog and she went out of her way to make friends with him. She was really great at making recommendations on things to do and provided information on the area. The showers were really hot and there was an outdoor sitting area too. Loved staying here and we will return. We stayed in the cabin but hope to stay in the amazing yurt another time (minus the dog!)

The sleepy village of Liessies (five minutes’ drive) has a scattering of restaurants, a summer corn maze in which to lose the kids at Labyrinthe Aventure, and easy family rambles (for when you’ve found them again) among woodland and orchards in the sprawling Parc de l’Abbaye de Liessies, centred on the ruins of a Benedictine abbey. All sorts of aquatic fun can be had at the Station Nautique du Val Joly (five minutes), where you can hire kayaks and pedal boats to splash around on Lac du Val-Joly. Back on dry land, Accrobranche ValJoly (10 minutes) has challenging mountain bike circuits, treetop rope courses for all skill levels and trampolines for younger kids. Culture-wise, there are several museums and ateliers showcasing local glassblowing and woodworking traditions within 15 minutes’ drive. And of course, if you want to sample some Belgian hospitality in the shape of a local beer or two, just slope across the border to the laidback bars in Sivry-Rance (also 15 minutes).
