Staying here means all sorts of options, rather than any sort of compromise. Features like well-equipped caravans (each with its own bathroom and kitchen) and an abundance of greenery are relaxing indeed, while a waterpark, miniature golf course, bars and restaurants are a short walk away over the road at a nearby sister site. Horse riding can also be sorted out within five minutes’ walk.
When you're not shuttling the kids back and forth between your caravan and their outdoor activity of choice, spend some time soaking up the sunshine on the nearest sandy beach (a mile away) or swimming in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. This part of the Pyrénées-Orientales coast has plenty of scenic coastal spots a short drive away too, including Collioure (15 minutes' drive) and Cerbère (40 minutes).
On top of that, the attractive town centre of Argelès is an easy five-minute drive or 40-minute walk away, making it easy to visit the 14th-century Notre-Dame del Prat church and climb its bell tower to survey the surrounding area. The town also has restaurants, a post office and a railway station for car-free journeys around southern France or over the border to Spain.

If you feel like taking a different view, see the town and coast from up high at Parc de Valmy (15 minutes’ drive). Six hectares of shady, green oasis surrounding a 19th-century château make for a superb picnic spot – and there are playgrounds for the kids too.
Playgrounds of the grown-up variety are 15 minutes away by car at Golf de Saint Cyprien, where you can choose from an 18-hole course with ocean and mountain views and a challenging 9-hole forest course.
To get a sense of the history of the area, spend a day exploring the city of Perpignan (25 minutes’ drive) with its huge Palace of the Kings of Mallorca (which dates back to 1276), elegant Musée d'Art Hyacinthe Rigaud and traditional Catalan museum Casa Païral. Salses Fortress (40 minutes) tells the story of the border between Catalonia and France from the late 15th century onwards.
