‘You can’t please all of the people all of the time’, so the saying goes. Undaunted, the folks at Le Mas de Thau are busy having a good go at doing exactly that.
The great location gives them something of a head start – from this peaceful rural spot near Montignac to the coast for beaches and boat trips. Also within easy reach are vineyard visits, games of golf, watersports, a tree-climbing park, a dinosaur park for les enfants…
Those who fancy a day of staying put will find much to entertain them on site, too – it’d be easy to while away many an hour between the outdoor pool, paddling pool, pétanque court, bouncy castle, trampoline, table tennis and a petting zoo full of friendly animals.
Something to suit most tastes, then, with luck. But perhaps most fably, should opinions differ within your party, site staff are on hand with options – the kids’ club and professional babysitters will happily take care of a tiddler or two while the rest of the family go out for an activity, or to allow the grownups a bit of space to relax at the spa, have a quiet drink at the bar or go out for a civilised dinner à deux.
It’s a sociable place, too – come by in high season for wine tasting evenings and to join fellow guests at the Sunday night feast out on the terrace. Meanwhile, morning munchies are taken care of by the friendly folks hotfooting it up from the local bakery to deliver fresh bread and pastries.

A dose of sea air for you, monsieur or madame? It’s a 15-minute drive down to Mèze, where you can wander around the harbour and oyster beds on the Étang de Thau, or half an hour to Cap d’Agde for a round of golf (with potentially distracting sea views).
For beaches, it’s a half-hour drive to Sète, where the 12-kilometre sandy stretch has plenty of space for quiet sunbathing sessions as well as launch spots for watersports including kayaking, flyboarding and jetskiing.
Also within a half-hour drive are the Bessilles tree-climbing park, the riverside Pédalorail trail, the Mèze Dinosaur Museum and several of the Languedoc vineyards (note to samplers: the picpoul de pinet is particularly pleasing around these parts).
