Here's something a bit out of the ordinary for your Loir-et-Cher holiday – in terms of both the accommodation and the atmosphere of the site. The collection of characterful glamping units at La Parenthèse Meslandaise are scattered around a nature-filled location about a mile from the village of Mesland, and they make a wonderful place for a bit of rural relaxation with friends, family, your other half or just on your own. The accommodation here has all been nicely thought out, giving you the feeling of staying out in the open air but with the added comfort of sturdy walls, proper beds and your own ensuite toilet, plus access to a spacious and well-equipped kitchen area with a cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. It’s also got all the utensils, crockery and cutlery you’ll need for your meals, and plenty of tables and chairs for civilised dining. But what really makes this place stand out is the setting, as it’s part of a sustainable property that houses an educational farm and a participatory vegetable garden. What that means is that guests can pick seasonal fruit and veg to eat (in return for a little light work such as weeding or watering) and get to know the adopted animals that live here – pigs, rabbits, goats and donkeys among them. Guests can join tours for free to cuddle and feed the animals under supervision. When you're not becoming buddies with the bunnies, you can take a dip in the site’s pool or get out to explore the area – La Parenthèse Meslandaise is handily located about 10 minutes’ drive from the Loire and close to several of its best châteaux.

You can't come to the Loire Valley without visiting a château or two, can you? In fact, you could probably fill your entire break with château visits here if you wanted to – the list of nearby options includes Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire (15 minutes’ drive), Château Royal d’Amboise (25 minutes), Royal Château of Blois (half an hour), Château de Chenonceau (35 minutes), Château de Chambord (50 minutes)… If you don’t have time for all that, perhaps instead you'd like to see the 45 replica versions at Mini Castle Park (25 minutes). It’s a great spot for the kids, as are other local visits like Grand Aquarium de Touraine (half an hour), ZooParc de Beauval (50 minutes) and the Safari Train at Beaumarchais reserve (10 minutes). For more outdoor time, climb into the trees at Loisirs Loire Valley (20 minutes), go kayaking from Blois (half an hour) or chill out on the sands at Parc Plage de Montrichard (half an hour).

Tenda de safari

Em va agradar 1. Greeted by very friendly dog (Twinnie) at the gates.
2. Then greeted Virginie (the owner) who was very welcoming and friendly after our long journey.
3. The facilities were great. Clean fully equipped kitchen, hot clean showers, heated pool which we were able to use.
4. The setting is beautiful. Set in woodlands surrounded by fields, was very peaceful and relaxing.
5. There are two very friendly rescue donkeys who love to come and say hello.
6. The accommodation was very cozy and warm, with a lovely fire and lighting.
7. We visited during autumn, and it was beautiful, but we imagine it would be amazing in summer too.
8. Everything here is very eco-friendly which was great for us. All the lights are solar powered, the fire used a natural fuel and a natural water filtration system for all the waste water. The owners here are doing everything right!
