Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial and the Normandy landing beaches of Utah, Omaha, Gold and Juno are all around an hour's drive away. The fortified town of Granville and its dramatic headland, Le Roc, is also about an hour away by car, for spectacular sea views across the bay of the Mont Saint-Michel. Dotted with medieval forts built during the Hundred Years' War, Granville is also an area of historic importance. Also at the headland’s western tip, huge concrete blockhouses tell the story of the area's German occupation during World War II, and east you'll see striking silhouettes of the Gothic church and the town's walled enclosure, which is filled with solid stone houses, boutiques, galleries, crêperies and restaurants. Visit Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park, which comprises the two enchanting forests of Andaines and Écouves as well as orchards, rivers, lakes, marshland, moors, peat bogs and steep rocky and wooded slopes, all of which provide a great landscape for hikes, nature walks, wildlife spotting and mushroom picking.
