Set on a forested plateau with spectacular views over the Belgian Ardennes to historic Bouillon, Papillon Bouillon is a family-friendly, laidback sort of a holiday park – and as it’s only five minutes’ drive from the border, you can easily hop into France for the day too. Dogs are welcome and there are plenty of walks in the forest hills around the site for everyone to stretch their legs (be that two or four legs), as well as cycling routes and kayaking on the Semois River. But there’s no real need to leave the site if you’d rather simply get there and flop. The spacious grass pitches are neatly tended and separated by hedges, and around the grounds you’re looked after with a covered swimming pool, a well-equipped fitness room and a bowling alley for family fun in the evening. Outside, you can play gently competitive matches on the tennis or pétanque courts, and let your kids scramble around on climbing frames in the large playground. Gas barbecues are allowed by the pitches but for those who’ve got the holiday bug and don’t want to cook, there’s a bistro for a bite to eat and a drink – plus evening entertainment in the high season. Other handy amenities to ease you into relaxation mode include heated modern showers, a washing-up sink and laundry facilities.

Em va agradar Superb welcome from the guy at reception.
Pitch was lovely and close to the amenities.

No em va agradar Yapping dog was left outside while the owners were away from the pitch. 4 hours of yapping was annoying.
No waste water drain site.
No access to the bins ( some kind of pay per use ). So we took our small bag of rubbish with us (only 1 night stay. Don’t know what we would have done if staying longer).

Em va agradar Good locality to visit the town. Nice staff and Brasserie. Pitches quite narrow but ok for our campervan. Dog friendly.

No em va agradar Strange bin system and no dog waste bins.

Em va agradar The location. And the toilets were clean.

No em va agradar Everything else. Impossible to get in touch with the reception. The pool was dirty, and on the second day they closed it. We wanted to cancel the last 2 nights, but couldn’t get in touch with anyone. Called several times, and left messages. Ended up booking another campsite, 20 minutes away. Really disappointed, especially that it was impossible to communicate. The place is mostly long term or privately owned mobile homes, which really gives it a wierd vibe. Wouldn’t recommend anyone

Em va agradar Eneste positive, var at den lå tæt ved en smuk, lille by.

No em va agradar Generelt meget underlig campingplads. Primært longterm mobilehomes, meget run down. Poolen var møg beskidt da vi ankom fredag - og desuden ingen stole til at sidde/ligge på ved poolen. Dagen efter var poolen lukket. Vi blev anvist en plads uden elektricitet, og løb straks tilbage til receptionen for at få en anden plads, men den var lukket - 80 min før det var annonceret på skiltet ved døren. En sød restaurant ejer prøvede at få fat i dem, uden held. Vi måtte finde en anden plads, og håbe at det var okay. Der var hverken toiletpapir eller sæbe på toiletterne. Vi besluttede os for at lede efter en anden campingplads, da pollen var vigtig for vores to yngre børn, og forsøgte forgæves at ringe til receptionen - også i åbningstiden, og lagde beskeder, for at få pengene tilbage for de sidste 2 nætter. Vi prøvede også dagen efter, men den blev hele tiden sendt til den svarer. Generelt en super dårlig oplevelse, og kan på ingen måde anbefales. Vi mødte også et ældre, dansk par med en datter i 20’ erne, der var ankommet dagen før os, og som var dybt frustrerede over at have betalt for en uge, da de bare gerne ville væk derfra.

Em va agradar It was really nice and quiet. Clean facilities. Went on a tent pitch and had a good choice of pitch.

No em va agradar Was told it was a 3 pin electric hook up, and when we arrived it was a 2 pin, and they did no have any adapters.
Also, they did not supply toilet roll in the toilets and you had to pay to dispose of rubbish.

Hiking in the Belgian Ardennes is second to none, with trails for all ages and abilities. Families with older kids can go cycling and mountain biking in the surrounding hills, and if you’re visiting in summer, there’s kayaking and other watersports on the Semois. You have stunning views over Bouillon from the site, and it’s equally splendid up close. Walk down to this medieval town in half an hour (it’s an uphill trek getting back). It sits on a Semois River meander cut deep into the cliffside; you can catch historic multimedia displays at the Archéoscope Godefroid de Bouillon and see regional crafts at the Musée Ducal, but the star of the show here is the medieval castle, its ramparts and torture chambers. When you all need a day off from sporting activities, you can jump aboard the mini-train in Parc Animalier de Rochehaut (20 minutes’ drive) to see fallow deer, donkeys and bison grazing in the meadows. Other day trips could include the Cistercian Abbaye d’Orval (35 minutes), where local cheeses and Trappist beers can be sampled (and bought), or Sedan (20 minutes) over the border into France and the host of medieval events in one of Europe’s largest castles.
