Rugged beaches, clifftop walks with expansive sea views, and colourful sunsets – all that (and more) awaits at Treseissyllt Farm, a simple site on the Pembrokeshire coast, about 35 minutes’ drive from Haverfordwest. Guests at this site in a wild corner of south-western Wales pitch up on two large fields. On clear days, the views stretch all the way to St Davids (25 minutes’ drive) and Ramsey Island; at night the remoteness of the location (and subsequent low light pollution) translates into spectacular skies dotted with bright stars. There are a couple of great (and dog-friendly) beaches in the immediate vicinity. The nearest is Aberbach, a sheltered pebbly cove that can be reached with a 15-minute walk; the other is Abemawr, which is just the other side of a rocky promontory from Aberbach (about 20 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). The latter is a popular spot for swimming, surfing and kayaking. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path links the two beaches and continues in either direction for close to 200 miles, all the way to Cardigan in the north and Amroth in the south. If you’re into cycling, hire e-bikes on site and set out on the so-called Brunel Trail, which follows the route of a former railway line from Haverfordwest to Neyland. After all that exertion, if you want to treat yourself to a deep-tissue massage to tease out any soreness, the site owners can arrange an appointment with a local reflexologist.

Em va agradar Really enjoyed our stay at Treseissyllt, a great low key campsite, virtually wild, in a fab location. Loved the informality of a choice of large pitches carved out of the long grass, and easy access to Aber Bach beach. Very friendly owners.

No em va agradar Toilet facilities are good, and kept well cleaned but limited in number especially if you want a shower, and might struggle for capacity on a busier weekend.

Em va agradar Beautiful site, very spaced out pitches, cut out in long grass, peaceful private spots, feels like wild camping (but have a toilet). Lovely views of countryside and sea in certain pitches. Loved it. The owner is really friendly and helpful and the facilities are kept clean. Novel toilet in a tent in the field for campers. Also a short walk to catch the coastal bus in St Nicholas and right by the coast path.

No em va agradar It was just the weather for us, had a tent box and it got a bit too windy so left a night early. It is an exposed spot.

There is one shower which isn’t a problem as small site, the water power is very weak, but enough to wash.

Em va agradar Beautiful, wild campsite perched on top of the cliffs, with easy access direct to the beach. Huge pitches, lots of space. A mile away from a great cafe at the woollen mill, otherwise nothing much around apart from beautiful beaches and walks. Basic but clean facilities including a shower. Big thumbs up from us.

Overlooking the harbour in Fishguard (15 minutes’ drive) are the ruins of an 18th-century fort, its four cannons still facing out to sea. If you head east, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path will take you to Needle Rock, a dramatic rock formation; alternatively, check out the local marine life at Ocean Lab - Sea Trust Wales, in neighbouring Goodwick. A 12th-century stone cathedral makes St Davids (25 minutes) the smallest city in the UK. Just across the River Alun from the cathedral are the imposing ruins of the Bishop’s Palace, while to the west of the city is Whitesands Bay, a favourite spot among local surfers. In Cardigan (45 minutes), the medieval castle sits by the banks of the Afon Teifi. Its highlights include the monumental Eisteddfod Chair, carved from oak and decorated with bronze birds, foliage and a crown, and the Sword of Peace sculpture in the garden.
