Walks in west Wales and pet-friendly stays in a peaceful country setting… what a lovely location is Laugharne View Caravan Site, a strict no-smoking site. Bringing a dog along or not, this park on a working smallholding has spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island, so it’s a first-rate place for a break soaking up the Carmarthenshire scenery. With paths to ply all around, it’s also a splendid spot for walks that should appeal to those on four legs or two – it’s possible to potter over to Llansteffan, a couple of miles away, directly from the park for visits to a wide sandy beach (make sure to check for seasonal restrictions if you're taking a dog) as well as a castle that dates back to the 12th century. From there, you might choose to extend your walk on the coast path or settle on the beach to fish for flounders and bass. More interested in strolls that result in supper? A pub is within a five-minute walk, and the eateries of Carmarthen – the oldest town in Wales – are just over 20 minutes away by car. If you've got a bit more time in town, ride on the antique Gwili Steam Railway into the hinterlands of the country or stay in Carmarthen to browse the boutiques. If you’re firmly sticking to country pursuits, stay on site to peer at the chickens on the farm, take the dog for a run around the spacious grounds, or set up a camping chair and use the wifi to help build tomorrow’s itinerary. You might also like to pick up a couple of drinks from the site's Hayday bar to complete the picture… The basic amenities at Laugharne View Caravan Site include a toilet block and a basic shower block. Please note that there is a non-smoking (and no vaping in family areas) policy in place at this site and that some parts of the site are adults-only.

  • Smoking or vaping on your pitch is not permitted. Only breathable awning bases are allowed. Please be mindful of the fact that the site's hillside, coastal location makes it quite exposed if weather warnings are issued. The shower block is unheated with no hot water in the basins. The grass tent and touring pitches are 150m minimum away from toilet/shower block and other facilities. Pitches are subject to indents and may also not be level. The maximum tent size allowed is 5m x 5m. Please note that rural areas can be subject to electrical disruptions. Where notice is provided, you will be informed before your stay.

Em va agradar: What an absolute gem of a place, couldn’t fault it! Plenty of space for the kids to run around, outstanding view of the estuary, facilities all well maintained and clean, an on-site bar which again was suitable with kids to have a run around while having one of their delicious own brewed ales, eating pizza from the street food trailer and listening to the live singer!
The hosts were brilliant too, very hospitable. We will definitely be back. Diolch.

Em va agradar: Well what can I say. This is my new favourite place. Everything about it was perfect, from the welcoming feeling, the views, the pitch, the bar, the sunset and the people we met. Couldn't ask for anything else. Showers and toilets were kept very clean and the owners worked very hard to make sure everyone's needs were met. The local produced ales and beers were really nice, with locally produced honey and free range eggs on tap as well. 10 out of 10

Em va agradar: Loved every thing about this site. The view, the meadows ,dog walking area and how friendly and informative the owners were.
The shower block was spotless and the kitchen area had a kettle and microwave to use as well as fresh eggs for sale.
We couldn’t fault anything about this place.
The bar area was beautiful and very well stocked. We sat outside, sipping on local beer while watching the sun go down over the bay. It was magical.
We stayed on pitch 6 ‘Caldey’ with electric hookup and a cold water tap which was a bonus, due to a curious puppy rolling around in anything he could find 🤣🤦‍♀️.
We walked along the road to llansteffan one day, then back to the site along the coastal path. Was a lovely way to spend a leisurely Saturday afternoon and not too strenuous.
Immediately re booked this place as it was everything we wanted and more!

Em va agradar: Stunning find this is - fantastic welcome from Sian on arrival. Views were unreal, we stayed on a hardstand with electric and water included. Saturday drinks were amazing🍺👍💯. Definitely be back soon.

The bar area was open and perfect to relax while the kids played. The even had some toys out for the kids to use.

Em va agradar: Pitches were great. Lovely rural campsite with great views.

No em va agradar: Unfortunately there are only two toilets in the ladies (one of which has the only shower in it). It was very quiet when we were there so it was ok, but I think it could be a problem if the site was busy.

During your stay there was a maximum of 5 guests on site for 4 toilets/1 urinal. As the site is in a rural area, the postcode covers a wide area. The site advises you not to solely use the postcode to find the site. They suggest arriving via the bus route (227 Carmarthen) through the village of Llansteffan and then follow signs for Llanybri. While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list. Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes. Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.
