From cycling, horse riding or hiking up the Halkyn Mountain to ambling around the traditional market town of Mold and its castle, crack open the North Wales countryside from Pen Y Parc Farm. A 25-minute drive from Chester and 50 minutes from Liverpool, with easy access from the road, it’s easy to mix and match visits to the cities with beach trips, hikes or white water rafting on the river Dee. Pack a picnic and take off to the 2000 acres of common land and ancient hill fort on Halkyn Mountain, just next to the farm… or head towards the coast, where the nearest beach is half an hour’s drive away. On site, admire the scenery from the landscaped gardens, take a little stroll around the lazy duck pond or prop your feet up under the parasol, where there are a table and chairs in the fresh air. Fried, scrambled or poached? There are fresh chicken and ducks eggs sold on the farm (subject to availability). Source more fresh produce at the local farmers’ markets and essentials from the shops in Mold, 10 minutes’ drive away. And if your mind is set on sampling some real ale, there’s a pub five minutes’ drive away and plenty more restaurants and cafés in Mold too.

Em va agradar We received nice clear instructions and the lady came out to meet us when we visited. She seemed very nice. The absolute highlight for us were the chickens - it was lovely seeing them roam free by our tent in the morning. We didn't feed them and they didn't bother us! The location was beautiful too.

No em va agradar We found a patch to camp on ok but as the camping area has a large slope the choices were limited (we were the only tent along with two other camper vans on the ground) but slept ok.

Em va agradar Friendly welcome from the owner, lovely flat area where we parked up. Stunning views from the hill and super quiet, one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had in my campervan.

Em va agradar Great location for starting an adventure in North Wales. We loved the visits from the hens, such characters.
Very friendly owners. Toilet was clean.
Lots of space to relax in and a fabulous sunny evening was enjoyed. We had planned to go to the pub but it was too nice to leave

Em va agradar Really clean, peaceful camp site. We loved the friendly chickens roaming around.

No em va agradar A shower would be a nice addition, but it was made clear that there wasn’t one when booking.

Em va agradar Had a fantastic couple of days
Peaceful…haven in the hills.
The lady who ran the place was lovely and helpful with any questions I had

The chickens are truly free range…
Visited me on many occasions but as long as you don’t feed them they will just pop in and out
On that note the eggs for sale are DELICIOUS golden yolks

Weather was fantastic and the grass was green

The toilet was clean and had hot running water…..it’s a proper loo too not a plastic portaloo in a field…instead situated in the courtyard/driveway of the lovely farm house

We will be back for sure thank you so much

Em va agradar Really nice location, and the farm/campsite is like a little slice of heaven. Had a peaceful overnight stay, left to it which is what we like. Only two other campers plus us and we were all nicely spread out. We liked how sheltered the camping field is, as it’s lined with trees and bushes, feels cosy!

Chickens came over to greet us, no bother at all. The water tap and bin bags are by the camping field, the toilet is a little walk away but no longer than walking to a toilet block on a big campsite if you’re staying at the other end of the field. Was expecting a looooong walk having read prior reviews. Didn’t put us off at all!

Great location for days out, walks, pubs and hikes! We will definitely be back for a full weekend next time! Thanks for having us.

No em va agradar No washing up area, only one toilet, we waited for the toilet on two occasions and there were only three campers when we were there so perhaps a bit of an issue when busier? Maybe a portaloo or two would solve this? Food for thought.

Em va agradar It is what is described. Rural get away - just the basics - but in a beautiful setting, with long views close at hand. 20 minute walk to a nice local pub (and downhill on the way back).

Em va agradar Great welcome and plenty of information on local area, pubs etc. Nice level hard standing, water and CDP close by. Site small and very quiet. Managed a 4 mile walk from the site gate but weather was against us so took 30 minute drive into Conway which is well worth a visit. Full TV signal which is unusual in rural area.

Take a trip on the canal at Llangollen (45 minutes' drive). Then, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (40 minutes), the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain with boats going across the top or a nice spot for a leisurely stroll with views. Into a Roman city… Chester (half an hour) is surrounded by city walls and it has much to do, from visiting amphitheatres shopping and eating to a day at the races or visiting the Chester Zoo (half an hour). There are meerkats, flamingos and big cats in the enclosures, plus playgrounds, plants and gardens. Closer to the site, tour lakes, ancient monuments and historic factories around the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park (15 minutes). Perhaps plan ahead and watch a show at the Theatr Clwyd (15 minutes), the largest producing theatre and arts centre in Wales, If you’re willing to go a little further away and you like your days action-packed, Snowdonia National Park (an hour) is also worth a day trip. Here, the activities seem endless. Go mountaineering, aim for the highest summits or try out the mountain biking trails.
