The ‘Haulfryn’ in Haulfryn Caravan Park means ‘Sunny Hill’ in Welsh, and while bright weather can’t be guaranteed at this modern site opened in summer 2019, a scenic and peaceful hol is most definitely on the cards. As well as having new facilities – the owners have spent several months getting the site fully shipshape for guests – Haulfryn Caravan Park's also well placed: long walks and excellent pubs are close by and it’s easy to get out and about by car as it’s a five-minute drive from the A55. For those keen on hitting the road to check out the Flintshire and north Wales highlights of countryside and coast, Talacre is 20 minutes’ drive away for bathing at Barkby beach or birdwatching at Hilbre Islands; the resort town of Rhyl is half an hour away and the long, wide North Shore beach of Llandudno is 40 minutes. Heading inland, it’s also 40 minutes to both Wrexham and Chester for city times, and 20 minutes to the fine town of Flint on the River Dee. So that’s the sights sorted… but how about the facilities once you’re back on base? Haulfryn Caravan Park has all the essentials including showers and toilets, disabled facilities, chemical disposal and a drying room. Other amenities are close by too: the local village is a couple of minutes’ drive away, Holywell is 10 minutes and – perhaps most importantly – three pubs are within a mile and a half.

Em va agradar Super quiet location, just off the NCN5 cycling route which I was following with hubby towing caravan from site to site. Lovely owner, couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful and there was lots of brilliant information about the site, the local area, facilities, pubs, shops, eateries etc. Very good, level pitch fully serviced. Very new, clean shower and toilet facilities, contemporary feel.

No em va agradar No wifi at this site, but we had our own router and SIM card on the caravan so it didn't bother us and only there for one night.

Em va agradar A very clean and tidy small site. Upon arrival we called the number and the lovely owner come straight out to let us in the barrier and show us to our pitch. Good sized serviced hard standing, we could fit the caravan and the truck on. The site was lovely and peaceful and the owners were very approachable. Very clean amenities that were lovely!

No em va agradar Bit a dislike but to note to others… Very nearly missed the entrance and had to reverse a little so take your time when nearby!

Em va agradar The site was lovely and clean and tidy.
Pitches were large enough for a caravan plus awning and a car. There is also additional parking if your car can't fit on the pitch.
The facilities were beautifully clean and tidy.
The lovely, friendly owner gives everyone a handbook full of local information (plus the site rules).
The site is well placed for the local facilities and a public bridleway runs beside the site which makes dog walking really easy (beware of sheep though!)

No em va agradar My only little niggles are the high step into the showers and toilets, most of the tourist information leaflets are old, and the fact that service points are just a bit too far from the hard standing, so that standard waste water pipes don't reach.

Em va agradar Such a warm welcome to the site and the owners couldn't be more helpful, even given a little brochure with local food, drink, walks and places to visit.

Everyone was very friendly, with a mix of touring holidays, seasonal pitches and lodges.

Probably the cleanest site we've stayed on, can't fault it.

Em va agradar We liked how peaceful and quiet the site was,which is great as my daughter has additional needs,and gets overwhelmed easily. The facilities were spotlessly clean,very modern. The owner was very friendly & helpful we liked the booklet it was very well laid out and very informative.

No em va agradar The only thing we didn't like was there wasn't much room to park your car next to your pitch,it was tight.

Em va agradar Lovely, quiet site. Host was very friendly and informative. Shower blocks were very clean and modern. About 20 minute walk to Druids pub that was lovely. However, the walk there is not all paved so may be a little difficult for someone with mobility issues as grass verges are a little uneven. Not much in surrounding area but great for a relaxing time

Along with beaches, Flintshire and its surrounds have their fair share of top towns and trekking: head to Holywell – known as the Lourdes of Wales for its St Winifrede’s Well shrine and chapel – to see sights like Basingwerk Abbey’s ruins or to wander through Greenfield Valley Heritage Park. The town of Mold, also 10 minutes’ drive, is your spot for the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church and a motte and bailey castle. Hike across the limestone cliffs of Bryn Alyn here or amble over to Prestatyn, the seaside town leading to the start of Offa’s Dyke Path (20 minutes away), for saunters on a section of this 177-mile-long trail. If you’re wanting to seriously work those legs, the highest peak in Wales is at Snowdonia National Park 45 minutes’ drive away. But not to worry if you’re already too shattered after all the other strolls: a train’s on hand to whisk you straight up to the top.
