Originally a drovers' inn, The Crown Inn is a handsome Grade II-listed pub sitting in a peaceful position by the river Alwen in the pretty North Wales village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr. Lying just behind the pub and skirted by ancient woodland, the pub's laidback camping area has easy access to forest trails, fishing on the riverbank and drinks in the bar. Access to The Crown Inn and Campsite is via a ford crossing that crosses the river – an exciting and intrepid journey that's sure to hold particular appeal for younger guests. A short wander away, there's a small waterfall that cascades down from the top of the woods into the river below – keep an eye out for fairies around here, as they're known to hang around in the area by the wooden bridge… Facilities here consist of well-maintained compost toilets and a washing-up area on site. There's access to The Crown Inn's bar and restaurant, which serve up good food and drinks throughout the week. Looking for things to do during your down-time? Relax by the riverbank, try a spot of catch-and-return fishing in the Alwen or fix yourself a firepit. You can also book some time at the site's private alpaca paddock to feed The Crown Inn's friendly boys, or sign up to an alpaca walk through the surrounding countryside with a woolly companion by your side.

Em va agradar: This really is a great little spot. The staff are super friendly and the pub very accommodating. We stayed overnight in our camper and enjoyed an evening meal in the pub. The river runs right next to the pitches and our little boy loved interacting with the alpacas. We would defiantly stay here again.

Tenda piramidal Alpaca Area - Willow (2 places)

Em va agradar: What a little hidden Gem this place is! A nice family run pub/camp site. Rich and Caroline were very friendly, informative and very very helpful! Already booked our 2nd stay for next month we went as a couple but our next trip is with our little 1s! Everything is fairly priced from staying there to eating in the pub, do recommend booking a table once u there! Pizza night on Saturday is popular and they are so fresh, light and full of flavour (add your topping from their list, plenty of choice). Recommend the alpaca 🦙 tour if your not staying in the bell tents within their enclosure! Again these are any too. Hope this has helped you book with them, any questions pls ask and I'll do my best to answer them or you can get in contact with the proprietors themselves! (Be aware once your away from the pub there is no phone signal, which is good for a break away from social media or the internet world, also there are no showers, but there is washing facilities (sink with hot/cold water). Also their toilets are composting which is a brilliant idea and I must say they do NOT stink which is strange but good!! ) Have a enjoyable stay if you book. We have booked to go back with our girls next month 🤗🍻🥂🤗🦙⛺🍕

Tenda piramidal Alpaca Area - Willow (2 places)

Em va agradar: Absolutely loved staying in the Willow tent with the Alpacas. Rich was friendly, knowledgeable and introduced us to 'the boys' who were all very cute and inquisitive, we roamed around their habitat and know that they are very well looked after and happy. Lovely location by the river, which was nice to wake up to the sound of the river and birdsong, shame we arrived late in the evening and had to leave early the next day, could definitely spend a lot of time there to relax and just enjoy the surroundings.

No em va agradar: Lacking in shower facilities which was no bother to us as we only stayed 1 night but longer stays might struggle, I knew this before booking and it didn't put me off at all.

Em va agradar: What is not to like? Lovely, friendly welcoming and an awesome fford to drive across to get to the tent sites! The river location was lovely and the wooded area kept the children entertained for hours. Added bonus of the pub with some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten! It is also located about 5min walk away to a football pitch and mini adventure trail, bonus! The toilet is a compost toilet, which actually once you’ve used to it, is just a toilet, my children thought it was cool!

Em va agradar: We had a lovely waterside pitch midweek and the campsite to ourselves. Couldn't fault anything the pitches well kept and I fed the alpacas with Molly who was a lovely girl, then the next day met Caroline and her son Ollie who really nice. It was Rich and Alice who we saw most and who cooked us lovely reasonably priced meals at the pub. The locals made us feel at home and were really friendly. We had a really lovely walk whilst there and although never found the waterfall are eager to try it again. The icing on the cake for us is a campfire and we had 2 lovely nights sat out watching the birds and lots of bats at dusk. No stars as cloudy but we look forward to going again and felt so refreshed afterwards. Also to mention the drainage is very good and ground firm so no problems moving our motorhome. We have had lots of trouble this year with the wet weather on grass pitches but this one was amazing. No phone signal unless your on 3 but free wi fi in the pub and I just walked 30 yards towards beer garden and could get it when pub shut

Em va agradar: Second time here we hired the 10person bell tent by the river it was fab my grandkids loved it !!! We had our fire pit and got to feed the Alpacas The pub and hosts our all lovely so friendly I was dubious about the new compost loos but they were great and surprisingly smelt and felt cleaner than most campsite loos!!!! The food in the pub is great and the kids had a game of pool!!!!

There's plenty to do hereabouts, whether you're inclined to go off gallivanting through the hills of Snowdonia National Park (from 15 minutes' drive), boating on Bala lake (20 minutes) or heading out to see cool castles like the one at Conwy (45 minutes). The village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr is in a central location in North Wales, so both the north and west coasts of the country are within an hour's drive too. If you've got kids or teens to keep entertained, popular options to keep them busy include Go Below Underground Adventures (20 minutes), a caving outfit based in Betws-y-Coed, the woodland rides and activities at Zip World Fforest (25 minutes) or taking a trip to see the many species of animals and birds at the Welsh Mountain Zoo (50 minutes). For something silent and serene instead, take a soothing stroll around the grounds of Clocaenog Forest (five minutes; free parking available at Bod Petryal car park), keep your eyes and ears peeled for osprey at Llyn Brenig (15 minutes) or appreciate the horticultural offerings on display at Caerau Gardens (25 minutes).
