Rosneath Castle Caravan Park

The park is perfectly placed for pretty much everything whatever your tastes, from attractions on the doorstep to day trips taking in distilleries, wildlife centres, castles and trekking around Loch Lomond and the west Highlands. The waters of Lunderstone Bay and Luss Bay are within ten miles – both worth a look, shorely? Sticking within picnicking distance, walkers and cyclists will find several waymarked forest trails in the surrounding Rosneath Woodlands, where most visitors wood expect to see a variety of trees like grand firs, Scots pines and Norwegian spruces alongside the more common oak, birch and ash. A three-mile shore walk runs from Rosneath to Kilgreggan; wander along to the pier from here to catch a ferry across the Clyde to Gourock for ice-cream and its open-air seafront swimming pool. Head about 15 miles east to the town of Helensburgh, one of many of the shorter day trips around these parts and home of Hill House of Charles Rennie Mackintosh fame, probably his best known house and Helensburgh’s most visited attraction. Hermitage Park and the river-front promenade of Kidston Park are sweet spots for more picnics, or take the West Highlands Line from Upper Helensburgh station through Arrochar, Tarbet and Crianlarich to Oban, Fort William and Mallaig for a scenic trip you can take photos of without worrying about your hands leaving the steering wheel. Watery trips from Helensburgh include cruises to the steamer ports of Rothesay, Tighnabruaich, Largs, Dunoon and Millport, and a trip on the PS Waverley, the world’s last sea going paddle steamer sailing down the Clyde Estuary to the Kyles of Bute, the sea channel separating Bute from Argyll (cameras at the ready, natch). If you’re stopping off at Oban on the West Highland Line, the ‘gateway to the isles’ has a load of boats to take day trippers out around the tiny islands from here in the Firth of Lorn. Elsewhere within 20–50 miles, Scottish highlights are in every direction from Rosneath: cruising on Loch Lomond within 20 miles; lush Loch Fyne and its oyster bar (a must, say we) within 30; Inveraray and the Duke of Argyll's castle 38 miles away; Glengoyne Distillery and its whisky tours within 32 and Stirling’s Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park 47 miles away.
