From paddleboarding and sea kayaking to chasing the South West Coast Path over clifftops, Hallett’s Rural Campsite will pave the way to the Isle of Portland’s Jurassic coast. And it’s certainly full-on seaside here, as the family-run, dog-friendly wild camping site is half an hour’s walk from the nearest cove and 20 minutes’ drive from Weymouth’s chirpy beachfront. That means you’ll be all set for seaside times, whether you’ve got your mind on climbing and coasteering or simply stretching out on the beach. Bring along a barbecue or hire a firepit, as both are permitted on site. It's all about the wild camping vibe, so facilities are kept fairly simple, but there is an amenities block – and the atmosphere is boosted by farm animals around the site that children are likely to dote on. A couple of food shops are within 10 minutes’ walk of the site for burgers and buns. There are bus stops close by that will get you further afield – but happily most amenities are within 10 minutes’ walk of the site, including pubs, bakeries, cafés and fish and chip shops. For a pretty backdrop while you tuck right into your fish and chips, perhaps one of the nearby beaches might be your cup of tea. Church Ope Cove (half an hour’s walk) and Little Beach (35 minutes), both accessed via the South West Coast Path are a couple of excellent options.

Acampada molt valorada i bàsica amb una relació qualitat-preu excel·lent. Els propietaris són amables i servicials. Ideal per a escalada, senderisme i visitar Weymouth. Instal·lacions netes però senzilles. Els animals de granja són un plus. Poc soroll de pedrera.

Em va agradar Laid back owner and atmosphere, clean toilets and owner on site when loo roll ran out! Handy location, not far into the village or to Church Ope Cove. Lambs, rheas and goats on site too!

No em va agradar Showers would have been a bonus but understand that the field is only open for a short time each summer.

Em va agradar Lots of space & choice of where to pitch. Easy arrival & check-in. Friendly owner. Basic facilities but absolutely fine for overnight stop. Close to local shop.

Em va agradar A fantastic campground with clean toilets, close to a pub, a chip shop, a convenience store, several hiking trails, beaches and public transport links. The site has a smallholding next door where the kids can see an array of animals, which was a definite highlight of the trip.
The site is flat and spacious, with opportunities to buy logs and kindling for the on-site fire pits.
The owners were friendly and knowledgeable and checking in to the site was easy.

We highly recommend this site and will be visiting again soon!

Em va agradar Lovely Campsite! Amazing value for money and an ideal location for a climbing weekend. The staff were really friendly and accommodating, made everything super easy no hassle or stress whatsoever. Facilities were basic, but nice and clean nonetheless! Couldn’t recommend more! Plus bonus points for the Emus and Goats!

Em va agradar Simple, basic and fun stay; Weekend 2 days break away from the hustle bustle. Cheap and effective. The kids loved the animals, the rented fire pit was useful and the sites nearby are breathtaking. If you want basic and good value for your money, this was exactly advertised and I loved it. The kids did too. Thanks Andy!

No em va agradar The missus griped about being woken a little early by seagulls but you can’t hold that up as a negative.

This is the Jurassic Coast and that means beaches, cliffs and coastal walks are on a whole other level… you might want to dive right down to Durdle Door (50 minutes) for the iconic photo spot or a picnic with the stone arch view. This area is well known for variety all along the coast, from the fossil collection in Portland Museum (20 minutes’ walk) and the gun platforms at Portland Castle (five minutes’ drive) to the historic sea fort at Nothe Fort (20 minutes). History’s strong inland too and that’s certainly the case at Maiden Castle (35 minutes), one of the hugest Iron Age hillforts in all of Europe. Dorchester (35 minutes) has its own thing going on – mainly museums, mummy replicas and Thomas Hardy’s 19th-century home. Those of you in search of ways to entertain the family might want to head towards Fantasy Island (25 minutes) for a funfair-style outing, or perhaps the SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth (25 minutes) for an aquarium and adventure park. Nature’s all about too, especially at Abbotsbury Swannery (half an hour), where a colony of nesting swans reside or at Kingston Maurward Animal Park and Gardens (35 minutes), where there’s a lake and animal park.
