Fancying a back-to-basics adventure in North Dorset’s Blackmore Vale? Get yourselves along to Hilltop Farm Camping, 20 minutes’ drive from Sherborne and a world away from 21st-century busy lives. A simple and small-scale pop-up site in the middle of Hazelbury Bryan village, it’s designed for anyone – bring the kids, bring the dogs – looking to unwind and reconnect with nature on a no-frills camping experience with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Rudimentary facilities in the camping field stretch to a clean portable toilet, a shower with hot water and a washing-up sink. Kindling and logs are usually available, so you can light up the firepit, have a barbecue or gather everyone up around the campfire and see how many stars you can count on clear nights. The far-reaching views over Blackmore Vale fields and woodland may give you the feeling of a true rural escape but the camping field is handily close to a convenience store and two pubs, all within 15 minutes’ walk of the pitches. If you’re wanting to explore further afield, lively seaside Weymouth and Jurassic Coast beaches are around 45 minutes by car.

Un càmping tranquil i tradicional amb vistes fantàstiques. Tovalloles i dutxes calentes netes. Fogueres i llenya disponibles. Alguns van trobar difícil d'ubicar (senyalització limitada) i soroll de trànsit (que s'apaivaga a la nit). La gerència ja ho està resolent. El gerent és acollidor i servicial.

Em va agradar We i’ve just come back from a three nights stay at this campsite. You can’t fault it in anyway the pitch was flat. The facilities were great hot water toilet clean yes it is an eco-friendly facility. There was lots of communication they came to see us to make sure everything was fine. There was a fire pit a wash up facilities.
The only downfall was it was too dangerous on the main road to walk to the pub
The first night was spectacular. We had so many shooting stars it was magical.
Yes, you can hear The Road but after 12 midnight, you couldn’t hear anything. It was quiet and then at 7 am The Road started to get a little bit busy but nothing to disturbing. I would rate this campsite 10 out of 10.

Em va agradar Small well presented . Flat pitches at top . Maybe 5 or 6 max

No em va agradar Hard to find on busy road as signage limited. Lots of traffic noise so earbuds a must. No visit or check from owner .

lots of our customers prefer the upper field as the view's are great and amazing for star gazing on a clear night, we have now opened the lower field as well, which is further away from the road, so now our customers have an option, there are two large signs at the entrance, and we will send our future customers a photo of the signs / entrance, which will hopefully make it easier to find us, (there is also a photo of the signs and entrance on our pitchup page) with regards to no visit or check in, the campsite isn't always manned, our telephone numbers are clearly displayed on the entrance sign and on the inside of the toilet door (email address as well) and we are happy to receive phone calls to answer any questions or to deal with any concerns.

Em va agradar Great view and hospitality. Chris was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. For a minimal campsite it is very well supplied with showers etc. for a wild camp esque camp it’s great and has more than enough for a comfortable night.

No em va agradar Make sure to go to the green man for food not the antelope inn ! They don’t sever food at the antelope

Em va agradar Quiet site, traditional camping, good views from tent, firepit and kindling/logs available, friendly and helpful manager, location, well made clean composting toilet, warm shower.

If you’re happy to mooch around locally, start with a visit to Alners Gorse Butterfly Reserve (five minutes’ walk), where you can see umpteen pretty butterflies, lizards and even the occasional grass snake. You’ve got a good chance of spotting badgers on their night-time wanderings at Badger Watch Dorset (10 minutes), where foxes and owls often put in an appearance too. Check out local history with a visit to the National Trust - Cerne Giant (15 minutes’ drive); he may (or may not) be an Anglo-Saxon fertility symbol. You can climb a steep hill to see his chalk figure carved into the slope from above, but the best vantage point is from the car park. Along with fine Blackmore Vale views, Bulbarrow Hill (10 minutes) offers more ancient heritage with its cluster of Bronze Age burial mounds. Coming a bit more up to date, you can head to Sherborne (20 minutes) to tour the priceless collection of antiquities in 16th-century Sherborne Castle and Gardens, where there are scenic lakeside walks. Close by, you can also inspect the photogenic ruins of Sherborne Old Castle.
