Not a fan of being packed in with hundreds of other guests? Pilsdon View Camping owners Terry and April are in full agreement with this point of view – they’ve got seven acres to play with here, but they like to keep numbers low to make sure there’s plenty of space for ball games, barbecues, campfires and stargazing (all essential aspects of a trip to the countryside, they suggest…) That approach and the mighty friendly welcome on offer have earned a huge stack of rave reviews for this rural Dorset site 10 minutes’ drive from Bridport. And there are plaudits for the location too, in a scenic spot with the river Char running alongside and easy access to several footpaths and bike tracks for rural explores. The owners are doing their level best to preserve that special environment, giving over part of the site to an orchard and growing lots of their own herbs and veggies in the garden (and asking dog owners to keep their furry pals on a lead so they don’t rampage through any of the above and clean up any doings). Kids can roam fairly freely around this site, playing with the garden toys and tyre swing or setting up their own games; don’t worry about them getting mucky, as there are gas-powered showers to take care of clean-up time. Toilets, a fresh water supply and a washing-up area are also in place close to the pitches field. Mobile phone and device charging is available for a small fee. Please note that as this is a family site, guests are expected to fall quiet after dark (no amplified music or other noise nuisance will be allowed).

Em va agradar Great location, huge amounts of space. The owners are wonderful very kind and you can tell they truly care about the campsite. Facilities are clean and work perfectly. They have drums for campfires and also sell wood aswell as other items you may need.

No em va agradar Wouldn't call it a dislike as its not a huge issue but the road at the front of campsite can be loud with the tractors etc flying up and down it but with the amount of space you have to pitch a tent its easily avoided.

Em va agradar We visited on a wet and windy August bank holiday. On arrival we received a warm welcome, shown where the facilities were and given information on pitching options and site rules. You can chose your own pitch and there is so much space to chose from that no one is on top of each other. There are shower and compostable toilet blocks dotted around the fields with a main block of traditional toilets, washing up facilities and waste disposal. These were kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. The shower’s were powerful and warm and probably one of the best I have used whilst camping. The number of toilets and showers available meant there was never a queue for either of them during our stay. The park and tyre swing, along with the various outdoor toys available to collect from reception were a big hit with our 2 children.
During our stay the fire pit rule was lifted and we were able to buy logs and kindling with fire pit provided by the site.
The Jurassic pork breakfast bap was great value and tasty and local ice cream was available as an after dinner treat.
Mobile signal wasn’t the best - but sometimes that can be a good thing!
We loved our stay here and already planning on returning next year.

Em va agradar No frills campsite, but in the best way. Open fields, just pitch up wherever you like and enjoy the countryside. The owners were super friendly and helpful, and there was just enough entertainment to keep the kids occupied and lots of space to run around and explore.

Em va agradar It was busy but didnt feel over crowded,
Had a lovely feel to the place. Owners are very friendly and very helpful.
Toilets always clean.
Hot showers
Little park, loads of space for our little boy too play,
Loved that pints of milk were available to buy in the mornings for £1.
Jurassic Pork had lovely food, the guys working, were always very polite and friendly, food was 10 out of 10 !

100% the best campsite we have found and stayed at. Will definitely be coming back,

Llocs d'interès

Might you have seen the cliffs of West Bay before? It’s quite possible if you ever watched Broadchurch, as they played something of a starring role in the telly series. They’re even better viewed in real life though, so it’s worth making the 15-minute drive to see them for yourself. Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ drive) is another fine choice for a day by the sea – mackerel fishing trips head out from the harbour, and there may well be fossils lurking on the beach (and if there aren’t any presenting themselves, you can see what other folk have found at the town’s Dinosaurland Museum). In fact, pretty much the whole stretch of coast here is worth a visit, so strolls on the South West Coast Path are highly recommended. The scenery extends under the surface too, with the 2,000-year-old Beer Quarry Caves (35 minutes) certainly meriting a detour. Away from the coast, Mapperton House and Gardens is within 20 minutes’ drive, as are a couple of vineyards and cider producers for guests of a particular vintage.
