Who says you have to choose between a beach holiday or a rural one? That’s certainly not the case at Meadowbank Holidays in Dorset, sitting on the banks of the River Stour and 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Bournemouth. It’s a 15-minute hop to Mudeford Beach by car, and the same to woodland walks in the New Forest National Park. Family-run and family-friendly, this is a quiet, well-kept spot set among lots of greenery and vibrant seasonal flowers. There’s plenty of wildlife to spot when you’re having a wander along the riverbanks – kingfishers, herons, swans and otters are frequent visitors. You can go coarse fishing for bream and perch on the river too; free permits are offered to all site guests. Facilities-wise, expect a modern facilities block with hot showers, baths and a disability-friendly bathroom, a launderette and dish-washing sinks. There’s a handy on-site shop for stocking up on the essentials, plus a games room and play area for keeping younger guests out of trouble. If you’d like to park up the car and explore the area on public transport, the park is on a regular bus service that runs to Bournemouth and Christchurch.

Em va agradar Excellent facilities. Very clean. Great spot for getting to Boscombe/Bournemouth. Lovely walks from site. Plenty of hot water. Friendly staff.

No em va agradar The pitch. It was the strip of grass verge that runs along the site internal road. Had no option but to park sideways on or would have poked out onto road which meant our view was someone’s back garden fence. Only enough room then for chairs in order to sit outside. We were only there for 2 nights so just got on with it but if it was main holiday would not have been happy. If you have kids it’s a no go on there. They have 6 spots on the verge they’re classing as pitches which to be honest feels a bit of a money spin.

Em va agradar Excellent Campsite, really is a special find this one, Clean facilities, excellent pitches with Water/Waste, WiFi etc. Quiet and Peaceful site. Excellent Cafe, Excellent Shower Facilities, Pizza Van, Fish and Chip Van arrive weekly too. Not a bad word to be said of the site 10/10 easily. Close to the 1A Bustop into Bournemouth too (15-20min walk)

No em va agradar Bus service remote (at weekends) and probably need another shower/toilet block for users remote from the current building.

Em va agradar The whole site was immaculate. lovingly maintained including koi carp pond by entrance, lovely hanging baskets and tidy grass areas. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Shower block and toilets were spotless. The Cafe was very nice with good selection. Servers were so nice and helpful. We spent a very pleasant and peacefull 10 days. Will be back in the future and thoroughly reccommend you try.

Em va agradar It was perfect for us. The lady on reception was lovely and very welcoming, the site was spotless and we found it ideal for the weekend. We attended festival on the quay and used local taxis to get back and forward. Will definitely stay there again, thank you so much.

Older kids may well prefer the vintage cars, historic buses and supercars at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (40 minutes). You have a choice of several beaches for seaside days out; Mudeford (15 minutes) is a sandy spit with calm waters for swimming or dinghy sailing.
