Located on the gorgeous Hartland Peninsula at the foot of Bursdon Moor in Devon, Secret Fields at West Tosberry Farm is both secluded and peaceful. A smashing wild camping spot for exploring spectacular beaches like Hartland Quay (10 minutes’ drive), here you have views of the sea, farm fields and open moorland. All are welcome here: walkers can hike miles along the South West Coast Path, and families chasing an action-filled holiday have masses of open space for kids to run and play safely, as they make firm friends with the farm animals. Dogs are welcome too, but must be kept under control. Breakfast packs are on offer from the owners, made up of their own farm-reared pork and free-range eggs all ready to cook up on your stove or grill. Chimeneas and barbecues are available too (a small charge applies) if you fancy rustling up an alfresco meal by your tent. There’s a little store in Hartland (five minutes) to pick up supplies, as well as pubs and takeaways if you don’t fancy cooking. Simple amenities include warm showers so you can get back to base after a day on the beach and de-sand in comfort, plus composting loos, a washing-up area and recycling facilities.

Llocs d'interès

Several gorgeous beaches are a short drive away for fun-filled days paddling, swimming and rockpooling. Welcombe Mouth (15 minutes' drive) and Sandymouth Bay (20 minutes) have plenty of room to run around and play games, and you can surf off Hartland Quay (10 minutes). There’s also safe swimming and paddleboarding in Bude Sea Pool (25 minutes). Should the kids tire of the beach (you never know…), simply head inland to the petting farm and climbing wall at The BIG Sheep (25 minutes), or the rollercoasters and sci-fi exhibits at The Milky Way Adventure Park (10 minutes). For more grown-up days out, the lovely harbour-front village of Clovelly (15 minutes) is packed with indie shops and galleries, plus quayside restaurants for long and leisurely lunches. The popular Cornish surfing town of Bude (20 minutes) also has loads of cute little cafes and tea rooms for cosy lunches.
