Fishleigh Barton Camping is a family-run farm with gorgeous views over the green Taw Valley in North Devon, and with easy access from the A377. The owners are experienced and enthusiastic motorhomers and like to think they’ve learnt a little about what makes an enjoyable stay. This site is situated near to lots of attractions but still far enough away to ensure you'll get some well-earned peace and quiet. If you don’t feel like venturing out, spend the day on the farm keeping an eye out for wildlife including deer and buzzards, or walk down the lane to the River Taw where you might see a kingfisher or heron. Facilities on site include mains water (two taps), two flushing toilets, a shower, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point, plus a dog walking area. The hot shower is an eco shower heated by solar thermal tubes (it's clever tech, and the team are happy to explain how it works if you’re interested…) This site is part of a busy working farm, so it’s a place that’s properly rural rather than neat and tidy all around (the owners suggest that if you like things highly manicured you’ll be better off elsewhere). Umberleigh (five minutes’ drive) and Barnstaple (15 minutes) are close by for handy amenities like shops and pubs.

Em va agradar Very friendly owners, really nice place. Lovely warm shower. I stayed alone I felt very safe. Hardly any road noise.
It was lovely to watch the goats, I really enjoyed myself and I'd definitely stay again.
Excellent rates, local to many beaches.
No charge for dogs, brilliant.

Em va agradar A good base for exploring this part of Devon.

No em va agradar tbh it's unloved. Facilities are all there but it's scruffy. Pitches are next to the hedge along one side and part of the top of a pretty steeply sloping field. Difficult to get pitched level even with chocks.

No em va agradar The site whilst I was aware it would be rustic, I was not prepared for:
the large pot holes to get on to the field
the slope is understated
the EHUs are covered by a 5 litre plastic can
the wind tunnel making it possible to pitch an air tent
safety - as a lone female camper I did not feel safe being the only person on site
the gate to the field had nothing to hold it in place

Em va agradar Really nice laid back campsite , helpful and thoughtful owner, stayed an extra night-good showers and toilet basic and clean.
Could choose own pitch, lovely Taw valley location beautiful views, peaceful just left to it , reasonable price with electric would highly recommend . JB

We had help levelling the caravan up from Site Staff ,as there's a bit of a gradient.
My wife found the Lesser Horseshoe Bats fascinating, especially when one joined her in the Shower Room one evening.

If using a satnav, the postcode EX37 9DX will bring you closer to the site. From the A377, turn into LJ Pantry/ Olde Pine and take the immediate right, which brings you to the car park with the warden's motorhome in front of you. The entrance tot he field is next to the motorhome. If you have booked the winter utility pitch, it is in the corner of the car park between the two trees.

For coastal days, the nearest beach is Instow, on the Torridge Taw estuary, 20 minutes’ drive away. Alternatively, set off to the north Devon coast for days at Saunton Sands or Westward Ho! (both half an hour’s drive), or Woolacombe (45 minutes). Offshore trips to Lundy Island run from Bideford (25 minutes). How about a hike instead? Both Exmoor (25 minutes) and Dartmoor (40 minutes) national parks are good places to get out for a proper walk. Cyclists may instead choose to take to the Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (15 minutes’ drive, or get there on the train from Umberleigh, a couple of miles away) Less energetic days out nearby might include a wander around Exeter (50 minutes’ drive, or take a train), pottering through the farmers’ market and shops in South Molton (15 minutes), or visits to RHS Garden Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal (both 15 minutes).
