Cosy and well-appointed adults-only cabins made for two – and their furry friends – await at Secret Skies Retreat, 15 minutes’ drive from the pretty market towns of Tiverton and South Molton in Devon. These romantic little hideaways each feature a smart kitchen with a Belfast sink, fridge, halogen hob, microwave, coffee machine and kettle. The ensuite bathrooms have full-height showers, and kingsize beds take pride of place in the cabins, with a breakfast bar fitted neatly behind the headboards. You will wake up to spectacular views over private gardens to the fields and the Exmoor countryside beyond. Electric heaters warm the pods on chillier evenings, and thoughtful extras like towels, dressing gowns and slippers are provided, along with hairdryers, complimentary coffee pods, tea, milk and sugar. The peaceful gardens each have a small patio area with a bistro set, a firepit with a barbecue rack, an electric hot tub and a double camping chair; they are also securely fenced for the safety of your dogs. Logs, kindling and firelighters are provided for the firepits; if you need more, refills will be provided for an extra charge. The long-distance coast-to-coast Two Moors Way (a footpath linking Exmoor to Dartmoor) can be accessed directly from the pod. In addition, there are a couple of good pubs (booking essential) about 10 minutes’ drive away, and the cabins are only five minutes’ drive from the North Devon link road (A361), which gives access to fabulous North Devon beaches in around 45 minutes.

Em va agradar We had a lovely stay at Secret Skys Lodge Retreat. Communication was great throughout, and the lodge felt peaceful and private. Waking up, relaxing in the hot tub, and watching the horses in the field was such a lovely experience. A perfect place to unwind, and we’d happily stay again.

Em va agradar Beautifully presented, comfortable and all we needed for a break! As an added bonus, while relaxing in the hot tub, there was a meteor shower on a perfectly clear night!

Em va agradar The view was amazing & peaceful. Watching the fields of animals every day was lovely. Self contained pod was compact & had all the basic items we needed for a few days. Alex & Ash were extremely helpful & friendly. And the sky at night was gorgeous, stars everywhere.

No em va agradar Having to drive for at least 20/30 mins before getting anywhere was a bit of a bind. We didn’t feel it was a good base for what we wanted.

Em va agradar The pod and location were amazing. The pod was so much more spacious than the photos show. Everything was of an excellent standard and all was of a high quality. The view and surroundings were just beautiful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing break away, the pod, surrounding and hot tub are all amazing and we can't wait to go back!

No em va agradar There were a couple of issues where we thought the fridge and then the hob weren't working, but they had just been turned off at the main switch (which was in a cupboard under the sink). If this note had been added to the welcome info it would have saved some stress for the lovely daughter of the owners who was in charge that weekend, bless her.

Em va agradar Gorgeous location on a small farm. So peaceful with lovely views. The Accomodation was perfect for a couple large bed with plenty of space. The hot tub was perfect.

Visitors keen to learn about Devon might want to check out the Museum Of Mid Devon Life, in Tiverton (15 minutes’ drive), with exhibits covering various industries historically associated with the region – from farming to the wool trade, and from brewing to lace making. Afterwards, head to the Grand Western Canal Country Park, where you can catch a horse-drawn barge or hire your own boat. Outside Tiverton, National Trust - Knightshayes Court (20 minutes) is an impressive 19th-century Gothic Revival country house with steep roofs, gargoyles and opulent interiors, plus a kitchen garden. Nearby, Chevithorne Barton is a garden with the UK’s largest collection of oak trees, plus vibrant magnolias and camellias. From above, the Nectar Gardens of Quince Honey Farm (20 minutes) look (appropriately enough) like a six-sided beehive cell. Take a guided tour among its bee-friendly plants, then head indoors to see the production side of things at the Honey Factory. Workshops range from beekeeping to candle making, and of course, there are delicious honeys to buy.
