With the River Dart nearby in one direction and the Devon coast in the other, Ramslade Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is in a lovely spot for a break in the South Hams. Park up here and you’ll be within easy reach of beaches, coast walks and seaside towns, along with days out including National Trust properties and family attractions. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, so it’s set up specifically with touring vehicles in mind. Both members and non-members are welcome here, with special rates for members. The price displayed is the member rate, so non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a membership. At £69 for the year, membership's worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site in that time – It brings discounts at more than 140 UK Club sites plus other perks like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. Being a Club site, the facilities here are nicely thought-out and well maintained. Guests have access to handy amenities including a launderette, wifi and bathrooms with wheelchair-accessible facilities and baby/toddler rooms. There’s also a play area to cater for the younger guests, and a dog park where the four-legged visitors can have a good run around. To keep things secure and stress free, the site has an ANPR check-in facility at the entrance. Pitches here are nicely spacious, with room for an awning and barbecue – all with a lovely backdrop of the surrounding hills. Pretty Stoke Gabriel and its pub are less than a mile away; for shops and more places to eat, try Paignton (10 minutes’ drive) or Brixham (15 minutes).

Em va agradar The site is very central to local coastlines. The showers and toilets are kept clean along with the site.

No em va agradar Beware that your phone will loose any kind of signal, we think because there is a blocker. The options offered to get you connected are £5 a day but that doesn’t guarantee you a connection. We paid it and struggled to connect. The free WiFi is useless. Was a problem for us as we needed to be in contact with family due to health concerns.

Em va agradar Excellent site! beautiful views. toilets and showers were exceptionally clean. we were able to pitch up up to 10pm. (just make sure you follow instructions when they call as the entrance to the hardstanding pitches is immediately to your right as you enter the barrier, quite easy to think it is straight on) the couple on the reception were super helpful! A few others on the site went to a local pub that had a live band and small carnival going the weekend we visited, but couldn't go that night. we will be back again soon this will be our regular Devon campsite when visiting family.

No em va agradar Not an issue with the campsite, but Taxis are awful around that area so bear that in mind if you go somewhere for a few drinks.

No em va agradar Cramped, sloping grass pitch, right by exit so constant disturbance from passing traffic. Road outside surprisingly busy for a counter lane. No room to erect awning.

Asked if I could pay to upgrade to a hard pitch but was told I could not because I’d booked through Pitchup rather than CAM Club.

WiFi didn’t reach my little corner of the site.

Loud music playing until late on Saturday night from somewhere in the site.

Itineraris

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not satnav, due to alternative roads being unsuitable for towing. Leave the M5 at junction 31 and follow signs to Torquay (A380), bypassing Newton Abbot. Continue to follow signs for touring parks on Paignton Ring Road (A380). At the traffic lights turn right onto the A385 Totnes Road (signposted Totnes, Plymouth). In about 0.25 mile at the bottom of the hill, turn sharp left immediately before The Parker Arms pub. The site is on the right in 1.5 miles (winding road), about 0.25 mile past a large caravan site on left (which is not a Club site). There is a security barrier at the entrance.

This is a lovely area for traditional family activities: think crabbing in Stoke Gabriel (three minutes’ drive), wildlife-spotting walks along the banks of the River Dart (five minutes), paddling in the sea at Paignton (10 minutes) or fish and chips overlooking the harbour in Brixham (15 minutes). You’ll be well served for coastal days around here, with lots of great walks along the South West Coast Path and beach days galore at the likes of Torquay (25 minutes) or Blackpool Sands (half an hour). For other family days out, try Paignton Zoo (10 minutes), Splashdown Quaywest (15 minutes) or Woodlands Family Theme Park (half an hour). Doing a more grownup kind of holiday? Take trips to National Trust sites like Greenway (15 minutes) and Coleton Fishacre (20 minutes) or walks among the stunning landscapes of Dartmoor National Park (half an hour). There’s also the option of a tour and/or tasting at Sandridge Barton Wines (three minutes).
