Pretty’s the patch of land at West Woods Camping, six miles from Dartmoor National Park. At this family-run farm, you’ll be plopping yourself down in a simple farmer’s field 20 minutes’ drive away from Torbay, which has earned its name as the English riviera thanks to its scenic beaches, seaside-style entertainment and many an opportunity to dabble in some watersports. This is a pop-up site with plenty of space, so you’ll be nicely distanced from other guests with access to minimal facilities in the form of portable toilets and water from taps in the field. You won’t need anything more than that, as the site is well connected to Newton Abbot town centre (just five minutes’ drive) where the nightlife’s pretty lively. That includes a large number of pubs serving your traditional pub grub, as well as shops, supermarkets and petrol stations to cover the basics. All that energy will certainly come in handy, as the farm is surrounded by a nice little mesh of local walks, all signposted and within a short distance away, so it’s unlikely you’ll get too lost (unless you want to, of course). Local beaches and moorlands are some other top spots for a good old wander and that includes Dartmoor’s trails (15 minutes’ drive) or the promenade in Torquay (25 minutes’ drive).
