Carstens Farm

Carstens Farm is a small working family farm set in 12.5 acres of pasture and ancient woodland in east Devon, with the added benefit of being a quick 10-minute drive from to the city of Exeter. The farm breeds Shetland sheep for wool, cross-breed sheep for meat, rare-breed chickens and turkeys. There are two acres of ancient woodland you can explore here, with a trail and a small stream that the kids can play in. Fields and farmland surround the site, so the local area is very peaceful. This is a working farm, so you should expect the sounds and smells of the country. The resident pheasants love to have a chatter in the morning, as do the turkeys. Expect a chorus from the lambs whenever they see a feeding bucket too. There is a small honesty shop on site selling fresh eggs, seasonal produce and lamb, and there is a small play area for younger guests. During the day, there are also opportunities to come and meet the animals. Another farm shop is also available just over a mile away in the village of Poltimore. As a pop-up campsite, the facilities here are basic: there's a communal toilet block and shower, a washing-up point, plus power to charge a phone. Each pitch has a firepit and wood is available to buy from the on-site shop. Nice family dogs are welcome, but please keep them on a lead at all times. Carstens Farm also has secure parking for bikes and motorbikes, plus a wide range of tools for any urgent fixes.
