With a remote and peaceful location on the edge of the Bodmin Moor National Landscape, rural views are a given at The Rising Sun. The field behind the inn also has easy access to Cornish attractions and activities, from the surfing beaches of Newquay (45 minutes’ drive) to the biomes at The Eden Project (35 minutes). When you stay on the dog-friendly grass pitches at The Rising Sun, you can be first through the door of the inn and last out at night, safe in the knowledge that you don’t need to drive. Alternatively, you could get out nice and early in the morning to spend the day on moorland hiking trails and cycling routes or scaling the heights of Rough Tor (40 minutes). And after a day out in the Cornish air, you'll be able to relax over a tasty meal cooked by the gastropub’s award-winning chef, using the finest of regional produce. Accompany your food with a local ale or cider, drawn up from the former smuggler’s cellar below the inn. For a change of scenery, Launceston (15 minutes) has plenty of dining options, from cafés to pizzerias. If you’d rather go down the self-catering route, pick up essentials for the barbecue from the town’s supermarkets. A bit of practical advice: take a torch as there’s no electricity on the camping field and you may need to use the facilities (loo, shower and a wet room in the pub) after dark.

Em va agradar I visited this site and what I liked was that it had a pub right next to the campsite. ( the site is owned by pub)
The staff where so friendly and the locals welcomed me in and where so friendly and a total asset to the pub. I stayed at the bar for about 4 hours and then went back to my van and had a very chilled evening. The food smelt amazing and the locals told me its fantastic grub and worth another visit .
Oh and the selection of ales where fantastic.

Em va agradar The owner and staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food that I had, whilst it wasn't the full Sunday roast order, due to them running out of some veg and the cauliflower cheese, was very tasty and nicely cooked. The beef melted in your mouth which obviously means it was good quality, well cooked and cut the right way, so a definitely a good chef.
The size of the campsite pitch was very good.

No em va agradar The time I left at the table before I was asked if I was waiting to order and given a menu. Had it been quicker, I might have received my first menu choice of pork rather than beef and may have received all the veg and cauliflower cheese. When I asked the waitress if there were any other veg and cauliflower cheese to come, she just said, no we've ran out! When asked if more veg was available, she seemed unsure and went to ask. A few minutes later she appeared with a second portion of cabbage and some microwaved courgettes, so green veg only.
Shower facilities really need bringing up to date and after visiting the first toilet which had excrement smeared across the ceiling, I chose to use my own van facilities for the two nights. Looked like under the sinks hadn't been cleaned for quite some time.
WiFi service was poor on the site and I was only on the second pitch.

Em va agradar Loved the location. Quiet and relaxing dog friendly
The staff at The Rising Star are very warm and welcoming. As it was my birthday on the bank holiday we booked a table. The food is exceptional.
We had an electrical hook up pitch and spent a lovey couple days here. Hot Showers, clean facilities.

Due to Van trouble needed to stay another night as booked in to a local garage for repairs Neil Jasper motors not too far away.

The landlord of The Rising Sun was so kind to put us up another night for free.

Definitely mark this up as one to return to

Exploring Bodmin Moor could not be easier. A two-hour circular hike takes in the rugged peak of Brown Willy from Rough Tor Car Park (20 minutes’ drive), or you can yomp up to the Neolithic remains at Leskernick and Trippet stone circles (both 15 minutes). There are gentler strolls through the conifer forest at Halvana Plantation (10 minutes). Try a day on the zipwires and giant swings at Adrenalin Quarry (40 minutes), or go trekking with alpacas on Bodmin Moor. Surfers may want to head straight for Newquay’s famed Fistral Beach (50 minutes), but there are plenty more temptations on Cornwall’s spectacular north coast. Head for Tintagel (25 minutes) to unravel the mysteries of King Arthur at its clifftop castle, or have a ramble around the twisting streets and whitewashed cottages of pretty Port Isaac (half an hour), which doubles as Portwenn on TV’s “Doc Martin”).
