If you’re in charge of organising the family rally this year, you might want to consider booking at Palace Farm Campsite, in the Kent Downs National Landscape. You’ll be staying on a large field in the village of Doddington, with rural views all around – yet only a 15-minute drive from the towns of Sittingbourne and Faversham. If you value your peace, you’ll be glad to hear that this is a quiet site after 10pm. Please note that this is strictly enforced – when it comes to guests, at least. There are no measures in place to keep woodpeckers, owls and pheasants from lulling you to sleep with their songs and hoots. You can explore the local area on foot or by bike (the owners will be happy to point you to the best paths and bridleways), stopping at a traditional country pub for a few ales. Alternatively, you can tee off at Faversham Golf Club or fish at the Willows Angling Centre, and there is a swimming pool in Faversham to keep the kids occupied on rainy days (all 15 minutes’ drive). Canterbury is half an hour away and well worth a visit for its spectacular medieval cathedral. Well equipped and environmentally conscious, the site has solar panels that assist with heating water for the showers and washing-up sinks; there are flushing toilets and a parent-and-baby washroom, plus recycling points. The nearest farm shop is a mere seven-minute walk away.

Em va agradar Well kept and level camping area, spacious pitches. Clean and well maintain shower/toilet block. Liz and graham live on site, there to greet us and check in. Great little shortcut through to the Chequer pub.

Tenda piramidal

Em va agradar Great campsite! Glamping tents were nice and big and the mattresses included were lovely and comfy! Decent showers and clean toilets. Lots of space and friendly owner Liz was very helpful!

Em va agradar Very rural and basic campsite with only non-electric pitches. Lovely flat pitches. Field idyllic with rabbits and bird life including woodpeckers. Right side of field where we pitched was very shady in the afternoon and evening. Left side better for evening sun. We were lucky that for 5 of our 7 nights stay the site was peaceful and quiet with few other campers. Facilities were really clean. Overall excellent facilities but would be good to have a fridge (and freezer for keeping food and drinks in and not just ice blocks).

No em va agradar Quite a distance from anywhere. We used campsite as our base for visiting Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Broadstairs and did a lot of driving! No local shops, but nice pubs nearby. We found there was traffic noise from nearby A2 and also seemed to be on a flight path so needed earplugs as a light sleeper. On our last two nights a large group of Dads with at least 20 - 30 children arrived and rather took over the campsite with football pitches, a large eating area and music/birthday celebrations going on loudly - children were noisy until well after 10pm. As advertised as a quiet campsite we were surprised they were allowed to come as such a large group. Worth being aware of if coming during school hols.

Del gerent: Thanks for your interesting review. We have looked into fridges and freezers for food. To provide these would require a lot of organisation, tracking food, making sure it is stored safely with raw meats in the bottom and cooked foods above and then we would have to register with our local council environmental health office. We would not be able to fulfil their strict management requirements.
We live in a small village with a butcher’s shop that sells a wide range of other foods and drinks including local cider, beer and wine. They also sell fresh fruit and vegetables, pies, cakes, cheese, bread and milk as well as jams, chutneys and more.
We are a family campsite. We do not allow large groups, 5 families is our maximum. On the Friday night we had 3 groups with a total on 22 children between them. We did have words with one group about noise and music and for erecting various tarps and goal structures that we were not happy about so sorry for that.
Living in the south of England there are always going to be aircraft overhead, thankfully we are not near any large airports and aircraft are usually at quite a high altitude when they fly over.
