Once you’ve snapped a pic of yourself eating a sandwich by the town name sign (ho ho), wander a bit further into the medieval streets of Sandwich to see the Guildhall Museum and Salutation Gardens before carrying on to Richborough Roman Fort or turning coastwards for days at the beach and/or bird observatory. Those whose wildlife wishes stretch to something a bit bigger can take several days over seeking out the sizeable beasts at Sandwich Wildlife Park (two minutes’ drive), Wingham Wildlife Park (10 minutes) and Howletts Wild Animal Park (20 minutes). History heads will be kept busy around these parts too – the Kent coast’s role in the front line of numerous quarrels has left it with castles galore, including those in Deal (10 minutes), Walmer (15 minutes) and Dover (20 minutes). Canterbury’s famed cathedral, abbey and Canterbury Tales exhibit are around half an hour away.
