Camping at its most traditional… and in a peaceful spot tucked away on a family-run working farm in the Isle of Wight. Retro Staycations, a few minutes’ drive from Ryde, is a place that’s been heavily influenced by nostalgic holiday vibes and makes a fine place to stay with family, friends, your partner, your dog – whoever wants to tag along, really. As the site is part of a farm, there are plenty of cute animals to make friends with while you’re here – look out for sheep, pigs and cows in the neighbouring fields and wildlife including rabbits and red squirrels. The accommodation areas are within a pretty meadow that’s got heaps of space and lovely views over the surrounding downs area. In keeping with the retro vibe, facilities here have been kept on the simple side – guests have access to a toilet block with toilets and showers (and heating, for a nice modern boost), washing-up sinks and a chemical disposal point. A farm shop on site sells local produce (eggs, milk, veg and local meat), and of course you’ll be allowed to light a barbecue or off-ground firepit to help you cook your meals and keep warm. Nearby Ryde is your closest hub for shops and places to eat, and it’s also a popular resort with sandy beaches and some smart Georgian and Victorian architecture. Handily, it’s also one of the island’s ferry ports; ask in advance and the site can provide you with details of discounted ferry travel for guests.

Cabana pod

Em va agradar Fresh pine smell of the micro-cabin, electrical sockets plus electric light, double glazed window and door. Patio furniture on the micro - deck. Sited on the furthest boundary of the camping field. Toilets and shower were very clean. On site shop was well stocked with fresh, local produce - everything you could need for a homemade breakfast and more. Easy to find, convenient location. Host Sarah was absolutely first class; super helpful and very kind.

Em va agradar Very clean site, friendly with good facilities, we will definitely be going back, there is also a farm shop at the entrance which sells local produce and meat,eggs,bread ect, i have to say probably best bacon and eggs I've ever had, the owner met us with a lovely smile and let us know what was where, very happy campers.

Em va agradar Friendly host, beautiful setting, great chill out zone with fridge freezer, hot shower, clean facilities, farm honesty shop selling eggs, milk etc.
It was quiet when I was there (how I like it) at middle of September but I imagine it could get very sociable around the fire pit. Picnic tables are a nice touch. Cant comment on the glamping airstream trailers as I was in s tent- but they looked awesome!

No em va agradar Nothing but Just to note that some travellers on motorbikes might find the access on a gravel track challenging- no problem for my little dual sport bike.

Cabana pod

Em va agradar Amazing host. Plenty of room in the pod, booked by myself & a friend, to put a double & single airbed and luggage and have space between. Also plug sockets X4 and fresh water tap just behind pod. And you can park right next to pod with Electric hook up.
Also to note;
•Plenty of space between pod & neighbours: campers & other pods/caravans/ect.
•Clean toilets & warm showers
•Outside washing up area, waste bins & chemical toilet disposable unit.
• Communal Outdoor seating area consisting of: Bench style seating, Beach themed seating with firepit, •Covered seating area with bookshelf of books for those wanting something to read whilst charging on provided plug sockets.
•Large fridge-freezer for campers to keep food.
•Live music and
Evening & Breakfast food van onsite on the Fri & Sat during my stay.
•Amazing owner who is really friendly and happy to help with any enquiries.
•Local taxi company is great & affordable

No em va agradar A little out of town if on foot. Nearby road, although walkable, is a bit dangerous and scary- I walked it and would say it's unadvisable to walk unless really necessary.

Em va agradar We loved the human side of it. Both ladies who welcomed and supported us were absolutely fantastic. Installations and appliances were also great. Safety was also goods and my wife who does not like camping due to feeling unsafe loved staying there which is quite a miracle.

Hitting the beach is a top priority for lots of Isle of Wight visitors, and you’ll certainly be able to do that from here, whether you stay local for the sands of Ryde (five minutes’ drive) and Appley beach (10 minutes) or head south to Shanklin (15 minutes). The latter is also home to Wight Water, where you can try all manner of watersports including paddleboarding, kayaking and wing foiling. For more ways to find that hit of adrenaline, get some speed up at Wight Karting Go-Kart Track (five minutes) or spend the day on the rides of Blackgang Chine theme park (25 minutes). Robin Hill Adventure Park (10 minutes) has a toboggan ride and a canopy sky walk for adventurous kids, along with things like crazy golf and a maze for quieter fun. Dialling down the pace a bit, you could take a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (10 minutes) or see where Queen Victoria liked to holiday at Osborne (20 minutes). You may also like to meet more animals at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary (10 minutes), Amazon World Zoo (15 minutes) or Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary (15 minutes).
