With views across Preston to the Pennine Hills in the distance, Smithills View Campsite is a quiet spot with just a handful of pitches on a repurposed farm estate. Using this family-run micro-site as your Lancashire base, you can pick up the 21-mile, circular Preston Guild Wheel cycling track in 10 minutes’ ride (largely off-road, so it’s smashing for kids) or be paddling on Blackpool beach in 25 minutes by car. Should you decide to stay put for lazy days exploring the farm, there are picnic spots tucked away in meadows and by the pond. Kids can play basketball or kick a ball around on the all-weather ball games area, and spot the deer in neighbouring fields. On the facilities front, there's a toilet block here and you can have an alfresco wash in the hot water of the open-air shower (bring swimwear for this – it's a family site…) Source meat for your barbecue from local farm shops, or whizz into Preston in 15 minutes to load up at bigger supermarkets. If cooking’s not on the agenda for this mini-break, several pubs with beer gardens and decent grub are within a 15-minute stroll; the nearest is just under 10 minutes' walk away. There is also a petrol station with electric vehicle charging points, a small shop, coffee shop and a couple of takeaways five minutes' drive away. Talking of getting out and about, the motorway is five minutes' drive away. You’ll have plenty of choice when it comes to outdoors action, with footpaths along the Ribble river or Lancashire Canal. And of course, Lake District fells and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are both criss-crossed with hiking and cycling paths for you to explore.

Em va agradar Pitch we were on was OK, but had to move around to try and find ground we could put the tent pegs in as the ground was full of concrete under the grass

No em va agradar Washing and toilet facilities were awful, one shower inside and 2 outdoor showers which I can only describe as make shift huts. Very dirty, toss up between wether you were scolded or were frozen whilst showering. Shower curtains badly needed replacing as full of holes.
Washing up station, had to be cleaned before you could use it. I know it's camping but I think even basic hygiene standards should be adhered to. Sorry but will not be returning. Nobody to greet you when you arrived, didn't have a clue where our pitch was had to find somebody to show us.

Ahead of your arrival, we provided a detailed site map, pitch guide, and arrival information explaining our self-check-in process and layout. During your stay, when you raised concerns regarding the distance from Pondside Pitch A1 to the facilities and our advertised unisex layout, we immediately offered to relocate you to an alternative pitch closer to the amenities. We also offered a 50% refund should you have preferred to cancel your stay given the severe storm warnings and wet conditions that weekend. You chose to remain on your original pitch.
Regarding the pitch itself, Pitch A1 is clearly listed and booked as a combination grass and hardstanding pitch, which features a solid sub-base designed to support vehicles and trailer tents alongside the grassed area.
We take site cleanliness very seriously and clean our facilities regularly, though heavy rain and mud during stormy weather present extra challenges for wash areas accessed from outdoors. That said, we take practical feedback on board: the shower curtains have since been replaced, and our shower temperature controls are being checked to ensure consistent performance.
We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations under challenging weather conditions, and we wish you all the best with your future camping trips.

Em va agradar Location of the campsite was really idylic with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The orchard was a nice surprise. Campsite was very well organised and layed out with easy access to facilities.

No em va agradar We tried to get a firepit on Friday evening but there weren't any left.
Some of the toilet block facilities were lacking. I.e. hand drier, bin, paper towels

Em va agradar Belting small little campsite. Family of 4. Age 6 and 15 children. The Sites Clean and tidy. Could do with another sink in the toilet/shower area tho . We will defo be returning

Em va agradar Good communication via WhatsApp. Basic campsite but with everything you need, although I didn’t try the one shower available. The communal Saloon looked great but sadly there was nothing on during our stay.

No em va agradar The site could do with some TLC. It has lots of potential but sadly a lot of the areas cannot be used as they are so overgrown and neglected.

Em va agradar The family field we had was lovely and only us and one other tent when we arrived, saw the cows straight away and love the look of the bar area that’s sometimes open for functions and party nights. Great communication prior to arrival. Toilets basic and clean and functional. We booked this site as classed as a small site and thought it would be quiet.

No em va agradar The site Would have been great but then 2 lots of 3 families turned up. So big groups. Music and alcohol straight away. One lady kept screaming at her kids to be quiet. The kids were just playing nicely. sadly I could not listen to the screaming we don’t live far so we packed up and left not the fault of the site. Just unfortunate timing

Em va agradar Mine and my partners first camping trip, and not the last. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would/will stay again. The facilities are more than adequate for what you get and although we didn't use the fire pits we liked the idea of them being available.

No em va agradar Our own tent 😂
As it was our first camping trip we bought a cheap and cheerful tent. The problem with it was there was no ventilation and we were dripping in condensation.

Whether you’re after challenging fell hikes or waterside cycle rides, the Lakes are outdoor-activities central. There are watery adventures (sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking and plenty more) to be had on Lake Windermere, or for a change of pace, take the kids to meet Peter Rabbit at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (all around an hour's drive). Get the bucket and spade out for family trips to seaside Blackpool (30 minutes), where you can be scared witless on thrill rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and reward your bravery with comforting fish and chips on the South Pier. On rainy days (which can sometimes occur in northern England), watch acrobats at Blackpool Tower Circus, or whizz to the top of the tower for Irish Sea and Lake District views. Back near base, there’s a lot happening in Preston (15 minutes) too. Let the kids run around in Avenham Park while you admire the Japanese Garden, or you can puff around Preston Docks on the Ribble Steam Railway (10 minutes).
