Spacious and peaceful, Crake Trees Manor is an organic family farm site with views over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It's 15 minutes' drive from the M6 and A66 and half an hour from Penrith, Cumbria. In the Westmorland Dales just to the east of the Lake District National Park, Crake Trees Manor sits at the centre of an organic family farm, 800 feet high up with spectacular views over the farm to the Eden valley and the Pennines. The farm is in a wildlife haven and has stargazing by night under the clear dark skies of Cumbria. The site has a licensed bar and regularly hosts live music from both well-known DJs and up-and-coming local bands. Events are kids-friendly and end at 10pm to let everyone get a good night's rest. The accommodation areas are on mown pathways in conservation grassland, with long grass and wildflowers all around. A short walk from the pitches gets you to the shower and toilet block (where individual wetrooms have underflooor heating), and the covered kitchen area (which has sinks, hot water, a microwave and kettle and a freezer for ice packs and a fridge). If you'd like a proper alfresco experience, try out the outdoor shower, where you can douse yourself with hot water out in the open air. Homemade food is available on site too, with breakfast baps available for delivery each morning plus a pop-up pizza service and a café during the summer and autumn months. Designated vehicle parking is in the farm courtyard, with wheelbarrows to transport your kit. Please do not park by the pitches. This site does not allow campfires, but you are able to hire a firepit from the site (please do this when finalising your booking).

Em va agradar: The views were lovely and it was nice to be surrounded by nature. It was a peaceful site (except for the squealing pigs at 0150 - which as you can imagine, scared the life out of me!) It was good to be able to chose our own pitch.

No em va agradar: No lights in bathrooms except over night. The bathrooms are quite dark and it meant it was quite difficult to see. Mirrors in bathrooms are awkwardly situated. Not all bathrooms had mirrors. Said kettle didn't work as generator on at certain times. After a 6 hour drive we were desperate for a cup of tea - luckily some fellow visitors lent us some gas so we could make a cup.

Em va agradar: We booked this campsite last minute after deciding to travel to The Lake District from Bristol. The campsite is lovely, it has everything you might need and more…. Including little piglets. We stayed Friday - Monday and on Saturday they had a dj, it was amazing everyone was up dancing even the owners! Honestly recommend to anyone wanting to go the Lake District or to just go camping here. Best campsite ever!!

Em va agradar: The campsite was lovely with good facilities (the toilets and showers by the farmhouse are much nicer than the ones by the car park!). They were kept clean but toilet paper was often hard to come by! The kitchen was well set up. It's a great idea having a kettle and microwave as it makes camping cooking so much easier. The food truck was open on Saturday evening and the food was very tasty. Mike and Ruth were friendly and non-obtrusive and Mike came round the campsite at least once a day to make sure everyone was okay.

No em va agradar: It was a little confusing when we got there, as we didn't know where to go to find the camping field or what to do (the welcome email had arrived while we were travelling). The food pricing is also a bit out of date as we were charged more than advertised. Other campers said the same thing.

Del gerent: Thanks for the lovely review. Regarding the pricing of food on Saturday night. Like most hospitality business's in Cumbria we are really short staffed. I was on taking orders ( not something I have done this year) and I do know that I made some mistakes. I organise staffing & usually and walk around checking all is Ok, we were down to third chef, it was a bit of a challenge. Anyone who released the pricing was wrong was immediately refunded. I could not do that If I didn't know, or wasn't alerted to a mistake!!

Em va agradar: We loved our stay at crake trees manor! Lovely clean showers- heated floors were a bonus! We really enjoyed the combine shed with crag sow on the Saturday night! With pizzas & burgers.

Em va agradar: Wonderful site, Ruth & Mike were fantastic hosts, had a fantastic time. Mixed bag of pods, tents, non electric camper vans and electric hook up, underfloor heating in the showers / toilets are superb. Food available on site and a bar some fab music to boot.

Em va agradar: My Dad and I turned up on a soggy night and were dreading setting up our tents. The farmer offered us the bunk house as an alternative which was fabulous. Lovely clean and well maintained working farm surrounded by sublime views. Would definitely stay here again. Beautiful place 😍

Cabana pod Green

Em va agradar: Spacious grounds with lots of animals on fields. Very quiet and hosts are brilliant. Stayed in the pod. Very comfortable and clean, shower and toilet facilities are great too. Definitely coming back.

Cabana pod Green

Em va agradar: Stayed in the pods. Basic as expected, clean with beautiful views. Fire pit with starter kit lasted us 2 nights . The kitchen and toilet/shower block was a 60 second walk . Good powerful showers with hot water . What made the visit was the barn and live music on the Saturday , and not forgetting the owners who clearly work their backsides off in order to keep this place as lovely as it is. Can’t wait to return

By foot or bike, the farm is close to several horse-riding trails: it’s adjacent to the Coast to Coast and Land's End to John O'Groats bike routes and near the Westmorland Way and Lady Annes Way hiking paths. And that’s not all… Cumbria and the Westmorland Dales have several circular cycle trails passing through the local village too. If jaunts in the car appeal instead, type Alston into the satnav and travel 50 minutes on a scenic drive voted one of England’s best, ending up in a famed market town so historical it’s appeared in both Oliver Twist and Jane Eyre... To potter through a pretty urban centre a touch closer to the site, Kendal is 40 minutes away from Crake Trees Manor and has 12th-century ruins to roam round as well as a natural history museum. Feel like pootling about another stately building? Lowther Castle and its gorgeous gardens are a 25-minute drive, while ambles around the banks of stunning Haweswater Reservoir are within reach in 30 if getting back to Lake District nature takes your fancy...
